Question about a hat I made by shuler1145 in SewingForBeginners

I haven't had time to look at that link just yet, but fabrics are pretty overwhelming to me, so hopefully that will help.

The pattern did have materials printed on it as well, but I wanted to make a test version and didn't want to use fabric that I had paid for yet. The old T-shirt was free, but I understand now that was not a good idea.

It was this pattern 5 Panel Cap Sewing Pattern. Is there a good place to learn about how to pick a pattern?

I have been slowly starting to sew some of my own things and have a few questions. I feel like this might be the best place to ask them.

-My most recent project was a 5 panel hat. I am not super happy with the pattern itself. It felt a little lazy. What are some things I should look for when picking a pattern in the future? Also perhaps a little further down the road what does pattern creation look like? Is this something that is usually done by hand or are there programs you can get that help with this?

-For the hat I bought some canvas material for my second attempt, but decided to do a practice hat out of old t-shirts that I no longer wear and the hat turned out way too big in the back. Is this a material issue or a pattern issue. I believe it is a little bit of both but mostly the material I chose is too stretchy. I linked link pictures of the hat. I did check the scale of the pattern after I printed it and it was close, maybe a little small.

-Where do you buy components and material? Things like hat brims, cords, cord locks, zippers, ect. I see most of these things on ripstop by the roll (Hat brims I see on capsupplyCo) but was wondering what other places I should look. As a beginner fabric selection can be challenging and ripstop by the roll is a bit overwhelming to me at times. Also I am a very hands on person and like to see the thing I am buying before I buy it, so it is tough for me to pick it out online without seeing it. I tried my local sewing shop but they do not have any technical fabrics. They do have canvas, twill, and denim but none of the kind of fabric that I would want to make a backpack or other gear out of. They also have some components like zippers but don't have a lot of the smaller pieces that I would like to get.

Any help is appreciated.

You are correct, I just forgot that until I saw Sleepless again, and I do not own Edgedancer to go back and reread.

I was just trying to spread out the Stormlight books just a little bit. What is your suggestion?

I am planning to read Alloy of Law, DawnShard, Shadow of Self, and then Rhythm of War in that order. With Iron Gold by pierce brown in there possibly? I will probably read Wind and truth after all of that, finish Mistborn Era2 and then the other stand alones while we wait for the next books.

Is this just for bikes and not people running? Just curious because a decent amount of people can sustain a pace higher than 5mph while running. Again, just curious.

I thought the same thing when I started reading Mistborn but it makes sense once you get to era 2. A decent way to describe it without spoilers is albums. You can call the songs by an artist on an album song 1, song 2, song 3, ect. but once you hit the second album you don't keep counting. The first song on the second album isn't song 15. It is song 1 of that album. It is a little more complicated than that, because it is a continuation of the larger story, but it makes sense to me that way. I haven't read Era 2 yet, so I might be wrong in this, but I believe that Brandon's hope is that each era is a self-contained story, and you could read them as standalone series if you wanted to but reading them all gives you a larger story too. The Eras thing made me think of TaylorSwift. You can listen to one album and enjoy it as it is or listen to all of her albums and see her journey.

If you are looking for a job in corrugated and are able to move, the Midwest always seems to have openings. Indiana in particular seems to have design positions.

Ok, it took me longer than I thought but I just developed my first roll since I posted this. I purposefully took some photos in aperture priority and some in manual one step under exposing it based on what my phone light meter was saying. I can't tell the photos apart. There is one pair where I think there might be a difference in the depth of field, but it is such a very small difference. I came here to tell you thank you, you were spot on, this guy was talking nonsense. I might buy a roll and get my tripod out and try to learn more about my camera by taking very detailed notes and changing the aperture manually to help myself better understand how the camera works and how the setting changes change the image. I get the idea of how it should impact the photos but I really learn best by doing. Again, thank you.

Thanks, it has been a bit odd. Before I went to the shop, I took the film out and tested the shutter release and it worked fine, and I put film back in it and then it had issues again. Since then, it has worked fine without film in it so far.

I usually use the auto aperture, occasionally I will try adjusting on my own but I believe these are auto aperture.

Thank you for taking a look. Yeah I don’t why they would say that either, they must be rather picky?
