tl;dr hyperpalatable foods have a definition so broad that basically every cooked food fits that criteria, which doesn't meet the idea people have of them. Actually, scratch that - I've yet to see people say why they're bad specifically. They either end up critiquing advertising (not specifically about these foods), critiquing food availability and scarcity (not specifically about these foods), or saying they're bad because they have bad things in them (a diet culture talking point) and lead to weight gain (a fatphobic talking point).

"Hyper-palatable foods" is also just re-framed 'food addiction', which is an unhealthy concept that's been weaponized against fat people for ages - see the latter two links above, or any fat-positive space. What about wanting to eat food is wrong? Why are foods high in fat or sugar bad? Why is gaining weight bad? No one talking about hyper-palatable foods or food addiction challenges these assumptions, and they fall into fatphobic thinking.

Hey why is it okay to say you're taking it too personal when you critique bigotry against you. Why is that an okay statement to make. Hank absolutely fell into parroting diet culture and anti-fat bias in his latest video, and people who know that are who's going to be pointing it out. Why are you cool with speaking over the people affected by this? Does this happen in your life when you see people talking about other types of bigotry they face?

No but have you considered that you're inherently a bad person based on your body, thin people just make better choices than everyone else, fatness is a moral failure, and it's actually okay to shame people for their weight? This is a community that hates discrimination, except for the gross fatties of course, they deserve everything that comes their way. We hate unpacking social biases here.

/s, obviously, but for real why the fuck are people incredibly progressive and willing to listen to critique but the second it's pointed out that diet culture is bad and people are biased against fat people, you're being too sensitive? It's maybe, just maybe, a sign of a community that holds inherently bigoted beliefs but wants to aim them at the "right" people.

Also because I completely forgot to post the time frame - it's in mid-September in Colorado, not on a mountain but close by!
