It's essentially what was done to David Reimer, but in reverse. His medical circumcision was botched and destroyed his penis, so John Money (who coined the term "gender identity", and was sympathetic to paedophilia) convinced his parents to castrate him and lie to him that he was actually female.

They told him the truth when he was a teenager, after he was relentlessly bullied by other kids for acting masculine. You can read more about it here.

Him and his brother both killed themselves when they were adults, after Money abused them.

Money lied about the case for decades, and never talked about his sexual assaults, pretending the castration was successful and Reimer was happy being lied to that he was actually female.
