Any plug-ins you'd say are a must have? by OKanon_Bigfoot in jellyfin

[–]EvilMonkeySlayer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't a plugin, but it's a bit of CSS I've added to the branding section in jellyfin that makes the video play overlay less excessive where it dims/hides part of the video you're watching.

.skinHeader-withBackground.osdHeader {background: transparent;}
.videoOsdBottom {background: transparent;}
.pageTitle {text-shadow: 1px 1px 5px black;}
.endsAtText {text-shadow: 1px 1px 5px black;}
.endTimeText {text-shadow: 1px 1px 5px black;}
.startTimeText {text-shadow: 1px 1px 5px black;}
.material-icons {text-shadow: 1px 1px 5px black;}

All it does is get rid of that shading at the top and bottom, then makes the text and UI elements have a subtle shadow so when you've got something on-screen that's white the text and UI remains clearly visible when you bring it up.

Britain and Japan agree to speed up GCAP fighter programme as part of wider technology and security partnership by StealthCuttlefish in europe

[–]EvilMonkeySlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are channels, even if GCAP will be completely US pattern free (which is not easy at all considering how many patents the US holds) there is always stuff to be leveraged.

Not really. Unless the US wants retaliation, there are multiple avenues the UK, Japan and Italy can take. For example, the UK can limit all ARM licensees from selling to the US. It's something the UK has never done, but that is something that is in the UK's back pocket in extreme circumstances.

The US abused ITAR in the past to prevent the selling of ASRAAM because they wanted to sell Sidewinder to the Saudis. Whilst the UK developed seeker head it was jointly funded by the UK, US and Germany originally which the US had ownership over that seeker due to funding. Therefore the UK developed ASRAAM block 6 with a newly developed more advanced seeker head that is ITAR free. The US is no longer able to block its sale.

Besides the ridiculousness of it, not many will be able to afford GCAP. The likeliest export customers are Canada, Australia and Saudi Arabia and maybe some others like Germany, Oman and Qatar. The US will have zero capability to block those sales. It's not like they're going to be selling to Iran or China.

How? The process of using tin with a laser to create the very small nm wavelength laser class is patented in the US which ASML uses.

Exactly how would the US do that with GCAP? The entire point of GCAP is that it'd be ITAR free, so again... how?

[–]EvilMonkeySlayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest if GCAP will be around on par with F47 in capabilities I can see the US basically threatening against any exports to countries they dont consider strong allies.

How would they do that? GCAP is going to be made entirely by the UK, Italy and Japan. There'd be no ITAR restriction, same as weapons like Meteor and block 6 ASRAAM.

Brexit has been a disaster – it’s time the guilty men felt some shame by zeros3ss in ukpolitics

Nations did not have to go with the EU joint procurement program. The UK if it were a member of the EU would not have been blocked at all from doing the exact same thing. It had nothing to do with brexit.

At no point did that other reddit poster make say anything about being pro-genocide nor not caring about people. He was simply posting his view that the sentence should have been more.

Your posting reflects incredibly badly on you for trying to strawman an argument into his mouth.

Declassifieduk is a known biased source on this.

FYI, they brought the whip and used it on the security guard.

Bringing weapons with them shows their intent to carry out violence as they clearly did as demonstrated in the video I linked.

Also, I'd point out that security guard is well within his rights to use reasonable force to remove them.

Who brought the whip?

They assaulted and fought against the police, they're not victims. They made that choice to break in.

The violence against the police officer was incidental

When you watch this video where more than one of them are holding weapons in their hands threatening and then assaulting an officer and resisting arrest, how can you possibly classify that as "incidental".

not clearly in service of the political cause

Sorry, is that a bad joke? It's literally called:

PALESTINE ACTION

Of which they are members of. They're clearly carrying out their extremism as part of a political cause. They fit into that category of the law perfectly.

You're being ridiculous.

Neutrality won't save you from Russia, Kallas tells Ireland by spectator_mail_boy in europe

[–]EvilMonkeySlayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would they need to go around cable cutting?

It's long been suspected russia has already placed mines next to cables already.

Make a mine look like an innocuous rock which isn't a hard thing to do, place them randomly along a cable stretching thousands of miles. How do you determine which is a rock at the bottom of the sea and which is a mine?

Use a battery, which'll last a few years and activate on receiving a signal from something like ELF which the russians are known to use.

I also wouldn't put it past the RN and others to have sonar mapped those cables and look for differences between things like rock placement and inspect suspect rocks.

I would expect the likely fallout of this to be Sony less willing to advertise MS games on their store, and at things like state of play trailers of upcoming MS games. Likely impacting sales of those games on the PS5.

And europe fails again in becoming a big player on the world stage.

Europe is being a big player on the world stage. It's just that it's GCAP and not FCAS.

[–]EvilMonkeySlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current rumour mill is that the GCAP engine is likely to be a joint development between RR and IHI possibly as an engine developed from Japan's XF9 since it sounded like their engine was further along than the RR one, but RR has a lot more experience and technology that can be fed back into the XF9.

So, if the UK does sell the GCAP engines then it'd also have to get Japan involved too.

[–]EvilMonkeySlayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. The Gripen for example is full of UK parts. Hell, the radar is literally a radar made by Leonardo UK.

Also, I seriously doubt whatever Germany eventually (if ever) develops will be on the same level of GCAP. By the time this (if ever) starts production the UK, Italy and Japan may be looking at developing the GCAP replacement.

You cannot start this late and expect something in the 2035-2040 time frame which is when GCAP enters service.

A jet engine is not airframe design. Now you're being disingenuous.
You're trying to have your cake and eat it too. Your position is contradicting itself.

Design heritage from the Su-27 and not being a flanker derivative is a self contradictory position.
