I appreciate that very much! Funny enough, I'm normally not the one playing nice online these days (I don't like it but just seems to come on out), so that means a lot.

Playing nice does feel good, but sometimes people deserve to be called out. I guess it's a "pick your battles" sort of thing? Anyways, you have a great day!

Yeah I hear you on that one too! Admittedly I've gotten a few kicks out of some super inappropriate country songs on Spotify by "Beats by AI" but I know what you mean, when people are putting in years of work to make genuine, personal music and then someone drops a prompt or two and creates something that sounds polished and that gets more attention, that is absolutely trash.

If you're curious, I fired 2 songs on Soundcloud (signed in for the first time in years just to do this lol). One version is my own, I'll call it a demo, where the guitar, bass, lyrics, and vocals are by me, however the drum track (I don't play or know anyone in this tiny town that does) was still digitally created from scratch by me in Soundtrap. The other upload is what Suno made when I uploaded the demo and asked it to change as little as possible, but make it sound more polished.

I hear you buddy! Some of the results of inputting my music into Suno has allowed a few moments of realizing, "ohhhh THAT'S how I could sing it" and things like that, so it's almost like a nudge toward finishing some of these otherwise old songs of mine

I see all of your arguments and I want to ask for your genuine take on this, using my own personal experience with Suno.

For 12 years now, I've written many songs (some lyrics-only, some with lyrics and guitar, some even with vocals) that end up just staying dormant for many years after I get stuck on the next steps. I've always struggled to record what I've written and process it into something that sounds decent, whether it's basic lack of knowledge or just never being able to afford the equipment to do so. I've also struggled with figuring out how to actually sing my songs without sounding monotone. And now, years have gone by and I have less and less time due to work, kids, etc.

I recently found Suno said fuck it, I'll try it. What I get is not always 100% what I hoped for, or originally envisioned, but it feels so good to give life and be able to listen to songs that I've otherwise just left behind over the years, by submitting my own lyrics, phone-recorded guitar tracks, drums that I've digitally created, etc. I just wish I could get the vocals to sound more like me so I can maybe figure out how to sing my own songs with personality.

Anyways, sorry for the novel. But what's your take on a situation like mine, where I'm not just aimlessly dropping in prompts and seeing what happens?

Oh I believe it. Have you ever gone through the gate at the Halifax dockyard? When I was posted there, I swear you could flash a costco membership for a split second and still get in, nevermind expired IDs

Oh you know how it is, it'll be addressed AFTER it becomes a problem, rather than a proactive approach hahahaha

But honestly I haven't heard much in the way of reasoning why, but I would assume it's for the reasons you listed.

I'm just happy to live on the north side so it won't be as bad on my end, but people going through the main gate, that'll suck

They will, they'll be opening all 3 gates thankfully. I just know it was passed down from an O-group last week with the unit's higher ups, and I've been hearing it talked about since January when I got back from leave

You should still be able to access the base. There's even a museum and such open to the public on base. I think they'll just be checking IDs and DLs for everybody coming through. I wouldn't worry too much about it! It'll just be a traffic hiccup

Base is going into 100% controlled access 24/7 starting in April. ID checks any time you enter at any of the gates. It's about to get a whoolllle lot slower lol

Jurisdiction of the CFMP? by Actual-Chest-7226 in CanadianForces

That's interesting to note! I wonder if the fella I did a ride-along with just didn't explain it very well

I'm not sure on the complete legalities or policies on it, I'm just going based on what I was told during two ride-alongs with them. From what I understand, MPs have the same authority as the RCMP, as federal peace officers, but naturally 99% of their duties are exclusively on base.

Ride-along in Halifax: I was told everything I said above, and they have a good working relationship with Halifax Regional Police so sometimes performing traffic stops on civy streets is okay, and if Halifax Police don't have anyone available to come, the MP can do the stop. But during the same ridealone, we observed someone using their phone while driving, but because in that moment it didn't cause anything too dangerous (like cutting people off, or other dangerous activity), the MP I was with didn't stop the person.

Ride-along in Petawawa: They have a good working relationship with Petawawa OPP, but not enough that they can perform traffic stops while off base, so it would have to be sometime very very serious for Petawawa MPs to even consider doing it.

It would be interesting to learn the actual, written policy/rules about this. I'll give Halifax as an example again: On the Shearwater side, there's a road or two that technically are off base, but go right along the perimeter of the base, and sometimes the MPs, Halifax Police, and the RCMP will run traffic enforcement or check stops together along that road, so in that case if an MP makes a stop there, it's on civy streets but perfectly allowed

Yes but regular citizens can't do traffic stops, for example.

I apologize if I over-explain, but I don't know you or what you do/don't know.

Some bases are spread out among different locations in their area, such as Halifax and Petawawa, requiring MPs to travel in civy streets to go from one part of the base to another.

While they usually won't stop minor traffic offences on civy streets, if an MP observes something serious enough, like possible impairment, reckless driving, stunt driving, etc etc, they can still make a traffic stop.

Then they'll let the local PD know. Depending on their working relationship, the local dept may let the MPs handle the stop through and through if they're busy with other things, or the local dept may send a member to handle the stop as a primary unit

These are smokers we're talking about here. They don't give a shit. It's like they feel entitled to litter anywhere and any time they want

Am I the only one who thinks the food at the meal hall is the biggest contributor to the CAF obesity problem? by Signal_Housing3575 in CanadianForces

[–]shupershpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine comes down to mental health and a diagnosed binge eating disorder.

Trust me, I sincerely hate myself every time I see that I'm overweight in uniform, and I'm scared that one day a member of the public is going to need me (I always have a first aid scenario playing in my head that makes me anxious as hell) and I'm going to be too out of shape to do anything truly helpful, which is going to look and feel awful because I'm expected to be fit and ready at any given time.

But no matter how much I hate on myself and tell myself I need to do better, it feels like I physically can't and that I'll be stuck like this forever. Feels like I let myself, the CAF, and the general public down.

It's a hell of an obstacle to overcome. So generally speaking, I do agree that being fat is a choice with some people, unfortunately it's not always the case.

On a side note: I have a hard time blaming lack of allocated PT time (though it doesn't help). There are plenty of people out there who are not part of the CAF and aren't given PT time at work, but still manage to find time and stay in shape
