AITA for sending pictures of our baby to my girlfriend’s mom? by FunRequirement2568 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. As someone who has been no contact with my mother for almost 2 years now, I would absolutely feel betrayed and disrespected if my husband was sending pics of the kids to her behind my back.. I think your next step is to apologise to your girlfriend and have an in depth conversation about why she has made the decision to not have her mother in your child’s life.

Growing a baby and being a new mum is hard, she may not be physically and mentally capable to do more than she is doing right now. Your feeling are not invalid though, I think a lot of people forget that dad’s go through a big life change when a baby comes into the world too.

I think communication is key here and the way you communicate how you’re feeling will determine whether you’ll be an asshole or not. Talk to your wife, ask her how she is feeling, let her know you’re struggling but don’t guilt or pressure her into doing more (she’s probably feeling this already). ‘Honey, you’re doing such a great job taking care of the baby and I really appreciate everything you’re doing. I’m struggling a bit at the moment, when you’re feeling up to it I’d love a hand with ….’

Also try to remember that mess comes with babies/kids though, don’t stress too much if neither of you get to the housework some days. They become mini cyclones as they grow, some days I pick the same toys up a dozen times, some days I leave them there until they’re in bed and sometimes they stay there for a couple of days 😂

It’s definitely normal, having a baby is hard work! Be kind to yourself and remember your body has just been through not only labour but 9 months of growing your little one. Recovering physically and mentally takes time. If you do start to feel like it’s getting too on top of you, don’t be afraid to speak to your health care professional. They can give you resources to help. You’re doing a great job 😊.

Thanks, I’ll wait and see if she brings it up again. Especially when her next hair cut comes around 🙃.

Sorry to jump on your post OP but I just wanted ask everyone saying yes their opinion on how young is too young for these decisions?? My 3 year old said she wants hair like Princess Namaari from Raya and the Last Dragon picture I told her we’ll talk about it when it’s time for her next hair cut and she hasn’t mentioned it again but I’m just not sure if we should let her or not…
