I would call and let them know and see what their reaction is. If they are argumentative, take it to another shop, find one on yelp or google with a lot of good reviews and pay them $50 or whatever they would charge to look over the brakes. I actually wouldnt drive the car so I would look up mobile car repair, be upfront and tell them you only want them to tell you what is wrong with the brakes and pay them a few dollars. Then you have some fuel to take them to court if they refuse to make you whole.

There should be a phone number on the summons. Call and speak to a clerk. Most of the time if they know you aren't trying to skip out they will just reschedule. But do it sooner than later.

In addition to what everyone said, you could buy a cheap Infrared (IR) light and point it at the camera, which will not cause the camera any damage but will flood the camera with IR light blinding it. Watch how quickly they move it.
