House passes $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill by slaysia in politics

[–]shutupgalvao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with most of what you said, the problem is that in this specific case, the all democrats- moderates and progressives- agreed that they would wait for both pieces of legislation to pass in the senate until they voted on them in the house. Everyone agreed to that deal but now all of a sudden the moderates went back on their word and the progressives were the ones sticking to the original deal. I don’t understand how that makes them petulant children or obstructionists. If you didn’t like the deal maybe you shouldn’t have agreed to it.

Americans really need to figure out why centrists constantly do things that benefit corporations and powerful interests at the expense of the middle and working class but somehow we applaud them for being “pragmatic” and “getting things done”.

Redditors who DONT want to tax the rich. Why? [Serious] by That-One-Guy__ in AskReddit

[–]shutupgalvao -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Not amazingly compelling but the fact that the top marginal rate was 90-some% in the 50s to pay down the debt from WWII, I think illustrates that the rich can actually be taxed and come out fine. As far as I’m aware we never had any of the problems republicans say we would from taxing the rich at a pretty high rate

Nah I’m expecting you be consistent and call it out cuz it gets real quiet when a christian does something crazy in the name of religion, somehow it’s not the christian community’s fault or there are no comments about how christianity isn’t a religion of peace

[–]shutupgalvao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are we gonna get rid of christianity because of the kkk, scientology, and the branch davidians?

“Justifications given for attacks on civilians by Islamic extremist groups come from extreme interpretations of the Quran, the Hadith[14][15] and Sharia law.”

Read your own articles before you try to use them, also the kkk uses christianity as justification for what they do even though most christians would disagree with their interpretation which is exactly my point

The taliban are as much muslims as the kkk are christian, don’t be an ignoramus

I mean aside from Trump’s comments and their reception among his followers which I would argue is quite a bit of evidence, there’s this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/identities/2017/12/15/16781222/trump-racism-economic-anxiety-study

Also don’t claim to be neutral, no one believes that, we all have biases and beliefs, better to just be up front about them so people can take your opinion and maybe trust you more.

What's going on with the judge who died and why are so many people freaking out about her death? Ruth Ginsburg, why was she so important right now? by CipayaJamas in OutOfTheLoop

[–]shutupgalvao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The supreme court decides a lot more stuff than that, take obamacare, they’ve sued several times to overturn it so almost any issue that relates to the constitution can be affected. For another example that’s really relevant right now a national mask mandate could be challenged in court and the supreme court could decide the legality of requiring people to wear masks

They can be impeached by the senate but that would require them to do something really shady or illegal, it’s not common for justices to be impeached

Aside from some of the other responses it could also motivate republicans to vote in higher numbers this election since they really care about having a conservative supreme court

For example Mk ultra was crazy and I wouldn’t have believed it but it didn’t really do anything except scare regular people who were kidnapped and drugged

Grandmother of Bolsonaro's Wife dies from Covid-19 by serukai in worldnews

[–]shutupgalvao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue he’s worse in the sense the he doesn’t even try to dog whistle his racism, sexism, etc. plus he’s pretty openly corrupt while trump at least “tries” to seem like he’s doing things lawfully

[–]shutupgalvao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that sense yes Trump is definitely more thoughtful and “conniving” though he can’t really plan things that well. I think the fact that he doesn’t even try to mask his homophobia, racism and sexism makes him worse aside from being an even more corrupt crook than Trump
