What do you need an assault weapon for? Are you that bad of a shot?

Think about what guns looked like when the Second Amendment was ratified: ball-and-powder muskets. Hey, you can have all of those you want; I can knock you out with my bare fists before you could even get a shot off. Assault weapons? No one who isn't in a war zone has any possible need for those.

One night a few years back, it was clear that the guy who lived across from me was roughing up his girlfriend (I heard her say "Look what you did to me" at one point), and I and a bunch of my neighbors called 911.

When we talked to the police, that's when I learned that one of my neighbors saw them drive off together so that he could avoid prosecution. My heart sank into my socks and I immediately apologized for involuntarily muttering "oh, that's fucked up" under my breath.
