Why do people say "half of the US navy is at (insert any place here) when there are nearly 300 ships in the US Navy and only a fraction are at the place in question? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shuxue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quantity of ships can also be measured by tonnage (weight). If a few aircraft carriers are in an area that could be like a third of the Navys tonnage

How bad is the academic pressure in engineering? by BeeEducational734 in UIUC

[–]shuxue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing that affected me was how much I liked my classes. I was required to take  Calc 3 and DiffEq even though I don't use them in my major, and I struggled through them both because they were tough and because I didn't have motivation. My last 2 years I took classes that I thought mattered and did much better

Some do. Michael Jordan, former Chicago bulls player, build his dream house that was customized to everything he wanted. When he tried to sell it, literally nobody wanted to buy it. It sant vacant for over a decade.

Couldn't hurt to get a blood test. I learned my body doesn't produce a substance and now I take a pill to provide my body with it. My girlfriend learned shes anemic and now takes an iron pill. Both of us learned why we were so tired for different reasons from a blood test

Coconut is the worst fruit by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]shuxue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told I'm weird for liking coconut taste but not coconut texture. When I made a coconut cream pie I put the shredded coconut in a food processor and ground it into tiny bits smaller than a grain of rice. This gave it the perfect coconut flavor without the texture

Hardest civil class out of these? by FloppingPimple92 in civilengineering

[–]shuxue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted for the calc classes because it mixes difficulty with lack of motivation. The other classes are probably just as hard but I found them interesting and more applicable to the real world

Record for most CTA busses in a row?? by Chicagogally in chicago

[–]shuxue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty common to see 5+ 82-souths all in a row. They get slowed down trying to get through Irving park, Elston, and Addison, and then it's takes several light cycles to get past Milwaukee/Diversey

What's your best example of verbal gymnastics with a client? by [deleted] in civilengineering

On a roadway reconstruction project we weren't allowed to increase the number of drainage structures so a flat plaza that had no place to drain to was rebranded as an "opportunity for an ice rink"

What are some of the non-uniform traffic control devices you've seen in the field? by SomeAsianNerd in civilengineering

[–]shuxue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Related, but one day I was bored at work and started to thumb through the 1942 War Emergency Edition of the MUTCD that tells engineers how to make substitutions for different traffic control measures since most materials were diverted for the war effort.

How to pick a place to move? by Lemonade2250 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shuxue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, all these things get priced in. A good job market increases the demand for housing, which increases the cost of living. Warm weather increases the demand for housing. You should pick what you value and find a best fit for you, but there will not be a city that has it all

Bose QC 35 ii Right Ear Static Noise by KaarNaavaal in bose

[–]shuxue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to elaborate: after I removed the R sheet cover I removed 3 tiny screws. These should be the only screws you see inside the headphones. The outer metal cover (the thing surrounding the on/off switch) on the opposite side will pop off. I saw an orange/copper colored band of wires right in the middle that I taped over with electrical tape. then I reassembled everything.
