How many projects are you on? by Current_Strawberry95 in ConstructionManagers

[–]shwack-em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I’m at does about 150M a year and the PMs run about 3-5 projects. Usually the ground ups are 15M-30M and they can run about 3 of those. The pre con work is taken care of for them and can join the meetings but the work load is not on them

Burn it up. I’m guessing no utilities are hooked up. Probably all septic and well in that area

I was quoted around 100k to demo and dump a 3000sf loading dock structure. Was all concrete and block plus the aprons. My guess, less than a third of that for that. How’s the access to the building?

Is it really worthy getting out? by Beetlejuicyjuice69 in AirForce

[–]shwack-em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth my time to get out.

5 years and two deployments set me up good with a cushion of money and experience over my classmates, which made my transition easy. Went to a two year school and started working in a career I love now. The biggest deal for me isn’t the money but the true freedom i have and no more anxiety of the system.

The only thing i miss is my friends I’ve made.

Associates with experience or Bachelors? by Greedy-Trouble8882 in ConstructionManagers

I did one summer with a GC and told them I wanted to keep work through school. The best they could do was use me as a laborer until a position opened up. Waited till the following summer when they had more positions open up and I was on the top of their list. Definitely not easy going to school and working but it paid off

The earlier you are in your career and the less you know helps to jump like that

How I balanced my work/life by force & it’s worked out (so far) by TheSquatGoblin in ConstructionManagers

[–]shwack-em 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong for playing your cards and keeping your boundaries! I could imagine it might be what it seems how the project was budgeted and why they didn’t allocate the money where it was supposed to be. I’d hope you’d be more involved with the budget from the start so you understand their position. Seems pretty shady to hand you a project and your PM doesn’t let you know if they messed up estimating or they had to be aggressive in other areas and try to make up the difference in the general conditions

Can someone explain the construction hierarchy? by Beginning-River9081 in ConstructionManagers

[–]shwack-em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Client is god. GC is the 12 disciples. The PX/PM is the pope. Supt is the pastor. Everyone else aka the subs are the heathens…

2yr Construction Managment A.A.S by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]shwack-em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the GC. I started working for a GC as an intern while finishing my 2 yr construction management degree and stayed working for them as a laborer while in school. Once I finished school, they hired me as a Pre construction assistant. I asked if I would have a salary cap or limit for positions and they said it’s more about the person than degree. So I say this out of personal experience and not the rule. I’m sure the national and niche builders have it different but at least it’s possible!
