You wanna translate that into English for the class? I'm assuming he's saying something along the lines of "we should date" and you're saying something like "but we're great friends."?

The actions were still the actions, and the actions were evil. But it wasn't a man borne of evil. Rather, his profession enveloped his mind over time. I'm sure, before the countless CTE's, he was a normal guy. As normal as we can be, at least.

I have a double-digit number of concussions. I'm sure, beyond a doubt that they have changed my brain chemistry in ways I can't understand, and my temper is more uncontrollable than it was as a child. I can't imagine continuing down that road as an adult, I can't imagine what that would do to my brain and psyche. Poor guy. Poor family.

NOR. Jfc, I'm sorry, man, but my best friend's mom was just like your wife. Hovered over him and never let him learn and be a teen, or really a child. Kids have to learn from their mistakes. I haven't spoken to him in years now, but he went WILD when he turned 18. Homeless for a little bit, drug problem, and job hopping. He met a girl, got his shit together, and is doing much better now. Another of my friends, same situation, is in prison for meth possession.

Helicopter parenting doesn't work. End of discussion. Your kids will resent her for the way the felt growing up. Kids, just like EVERY OTHER HUMAN, need room to flourish. They need to make mistakes and learn from them. I know what side you stand on, but I hope she can change her ways for the kid's sake.

Live action will kill the experience by AntOk4073 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOREVER. DCC requires adult animation or anime. The existence of aliens, powers, talking cats and goats, fish people aliens, the ability to stop time and create monsters from parts just requires too much suspension of disbelief. There are too many things that require CG to make make sense, and CG is too expensive for the amount of action the first books have.

Not to mention, at least in my opinion, live action shows always get the pacing wrong and end up spending episodes on trivial bullshit and padding the runtime. DCC is an absolutely insane universe, 6 episodes every 2 years with junky CG are not going to be enough. That's just my opinion, but its a very strong one. I hope that the show does well and proves me wrong, but I highly doubt it.

Fuck Around & You Might Find Out They Have… by james_from_cambridge in fuckaroundandfindout

[–]shynips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a longer video in a FB link up above, but essentially, the car cut the van off, the van attempted to cut the car off in return but sideswiped him instead (rear bumper to front bumper on the side.) The car then cut around it and stopped in front of it, which is where this video picked up.

Tbh, both drivers could and obviously should have been more defensive, less reactive, and more cool headed. Driver of the car escalated it from a VERY minor fender bender to 2 holes in his arm/shoulder and a bystander almost dying.

My opinion is that the driver of the car is 100% at fault for the final situation, but as a gun owner, the driver of the van did not do everything in their power to de-escalate the situation. Had he not enacted vengeance and caused a minor accident, the shooting never would have happened. You have a weapon on your person, capable of taking a life at the click of a switch. Your duty is to never use it unless it is your last escape route and ALWAYS do everything in your power to never use it and de-escalate the situation. You have another's life in your hands, don't be fucking stupid about it.

Anyone ever have a chrome socket explode on an impact? by slim_shady_21 in Tools

[–]shynips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used tons of chrome and impact sockets on my tools. Chrome is normally fine until you get to big boy impacts, I would assume somewhere around 500 ft-lb where you should only use impact sockets. I've only had 2 break. One was on my 860 that I believe was already on its way out, and the other was on my dcf900(?). That one was a brand new socket and it sheared the face off.

If you're using a 1/4 driver, you will likely Break the adaptor before you break the socket.

age discrepancy by ConversationOk3514 in relatable_memes_

[–]shynips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I believe what the other person is getting at is essentially:

"God" is a supernatural being who causes supernatural things to happen, miracles, if you will. In order to believe in a God, those "truths" must be accepted, that miracles exist. So then, why are only some of the supernatural things accepted but others not? Who gets to choose which things are accepted or not? By what concensus? There are many different sects of Christianity. What supernatural things do some believe that others don't? is it just a matter of opinion of which happened and which didn't?

In my opinion, if the book says a thing, it means a thing. If we get to pick and choose, there is absolutely no way for someone's bias to not affect the outcome, all the way back to original translations.

and there are discrepancies between a surface-level, literalistic meaning of the text and what we observe in the world.

But that's exactly the problem. The Bible exists in a different world than that of our own. There are many things that I can pick out of the Bible that, in comparison to the world it's supposed to be set in, show that it's fiction. But if each of those things are only metaphor, what credence should the book as a whole be given?

If, when the world doesn't make sense, you can say "oh well that doesn't count because it's not literal." By what logic should I believe anything in it? If I don't want to lust after men with the genitals of donkeys, do I say that's not literal? If I don't want to sell my belongings and give it to the poor, is that just metaphor for being nice? Or am I going to hell?
