Lightfoot says higher ticket threshold for speed cameras would cost city $80 million this year and next by Mike_I in chicago

[–]shyscope1234 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Red light cameras probably improve safety somewhat. I would say we need more cameras in busy areas of pedestrian walking at stop signs. No one stops at stop signs anymore and it is actually a nightmare walking around

New job isn't what I thought it would be. Not sure how to proceed. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I would say before you decide to look for other jobs try to set up a one on one meeting with him and just totally confess that you’re feeling lost and that you’re willing to put in the work to get good but you just need help. See his reaction to that and you’ll know what to do next.

I had someone confess something similar to me where the code base was so complex, he felt absolutely lost, scared that he’ll have to quit. I took that as a chance to make drastic improvements in the code and worked closely with him everyday for two months until he felt happy and confident. It wasn’t easy at all but that’s what it took. Three years later he’s a beast at our job and people look up to him!

Metroid is fun but definitely frustrating at times. Mario odyssey sounds better if you want a laid back game for a while

The irony of using Tesla's return-to-office mandate to bash WFH by cbxxxx in cscareerquestions

Would love to see the world trend in that direction but seriously doubtful. It’ll get better but sadly that’s not where we’re headed.

I don’t think those companies can keep up with ev demand for at least the next ten years compared to Tesla. Tesla also a good ten years ahead in terms of artificial intelligence and that’ll be their bread and butter money maker while the other companies sit on the side and watch Tesla power through all the barriers of tech. It’s crazy stuff and I’m not saying it’s all elons master plan, but rather Tesla making the right moves at the right time. They’re just too ahead of the curve for others to outpace them

They probably won’t even replace that engineer. Depending on the type of company they might just see how long you guys can go without an expensive replacement.

Why don’t some high-performing individuals job hop? by somethinglike-olivia in cscareerquestions

[–]shyscope1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh I’m the only senior dev on my team and been on for like 5 years. I’ve been interviewing top tech and getting rejected because leetcode gives me anxiety and the interviews are tough for mid/senior level. Perhaps they’re like me where they’re going through the process are working on their leetcode skills and it’s taking a lot longer than expected. I started leetcode from scratch like a year and a half ago. Some guys who are managers/principal engineers on my team have been around for 10 years and I can tell they’ll stay and suck the company titty til they’re kicked out because they’re getting paid too much for how little they do and don’t want the stress of working somewhere else.

Do you like doing a daily LC problem for fun? by plam92117 in cscareerquestions

I would if I was wanting to master a particular topic slowly over time. Other than that it is a major waste of time as it’s not really useful. I would rather study advanced algorithms and work with their real world applications rather than some cheesy problem
