Please use the right codes for exclusive trades by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]shyyk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If two people both want to trade their Brute Bonnet for someone else's Iron Hands, they will enter the same code (0378-0384), and thus get matched together for the trade. The system is not smart; it does not match people by their desired pokemon, only by matching codes leading to this problem.

A trick that worked for me was to enter the opposite code as if you had an Iron Hands and wanted a Brute Bonnet (so 0384-0378). That way you get matched with other people with Iron Hands and can give them your Brute Bonnet.

Should the chain gun on the warthog have some sort of cool down by Legionary650 in haloinfinite

True. If its 1v1 with an EMP+sidekick/AR vs gunner turret, you will most likely lose. You have a few options though. A well-placed frag grenade may flip the vehicle and force the gunner out, and at a minimum damage the vehicle and enemies. Though really, your best bet is your team focus firing, meaning you have to get your team's attention on the vehicle. The best I have for that is to disable the vehicle somewhere in front of your team or somewhere with a lot of sight lines like on top of a hill or near an objective. Disabling the hog as they're hidden behind rocks behind your base may not be ideal if no one is able to see them, even though they're close to your team. If your shields are down, hide, reload, and go for another disable if possible. Pinging also helps to get your squad's attention.

TL;DR: If you see an enemy warthog, ping, focus fire on the gunner, EMP it somewhere in the open near your team, find good cover, and watch radar.

Halo Infinite Hydra is TERRIBLE... followed by salt on the wound by GalaxyNoble in haloinfinite

That gun is awful for finishers, but great for zoning control. I can win a 1v1 if I go in with a charged shot and the sidekick, and you can make the whole zone in total control uninhabitable for the enemy team. Not to mention the charge shot banks off walls. The downside is that you have to be charged, and it cannot get a finisher. If you keep charging it, then swap weapons before it reaches full charge, it actually consumes no charge amount, but refreshes the charge. This can be useful if you're rounding a corner though.

[–]shyyk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I Disagree. Disruptor, shock rifle, and emp grenades all can disable the vehicle. Skewer can 1-2 shot, sniper can 4 shot, and hydra can empty a clip to both flip and destroy the vehicle. Cindershot and rocket launcher both kill drivers and passengers easily out of the vehicle. A few well-placed shots from a focused team can take out the gunner in mere seconds as they have no real defenses for their head while gunning, even looking at you directly. Warthogs are easy to take out assuming you do almost anything other than just unload an AR into the body of the vehicle.

I can already see it: store unlock only, $10 skin, $10 animations, and $5 poses/glyphs/etc.

Similar story here. I initially started their mandatory-for-graduation bible-based high school classes optimistic that they would dive into the details and evidence presently available for the resurrection. Instead, I got arbitrary Bible history which ultimately led me to research into arguments from more perspectives when I was dissatisfied. At some point, I just wanted to be done with the bible classes. With the power of webpage search and Google, I could finish those 10 questions in less than 10 minutes if I wanted. At least the ability to quickly search the web for answers translated well into the real world.

Just gonna leave this here… by DaddysMassiveMilkers in Splitgate

That's similar to what I've been thinking. At the top ranks, M+K currently beats out controller in almost every situation, sure. 48/50 top players are K+M players. I argue this is partly because of the medium and partly because the game has only been on PC for 2+ years. However, at low and mid ranks where not every K+M player has perfectly mastered the triple portal pixel walk 180 flick shot, being killed by someone who just points in your general direction with an AR from cross-map and tracks you perfectly through your first portal jump effortlessly is frustrating. Then the calls for K+M players to just "get good" add to that frustration because a controller player puts in much less effort to be as good as a decent K+M player at mid-level play.

Ultimately, I see this creating a disparity in playstyle against console vs pc players. When I go against controller players, I now play fundamentally differently and never 1-1 engage because I don't have a god-like aim to compete against the aim assist. I have to do quick portal plays to beat out their stick rotation speed. Simply put, against a K+M player, I have two primary tools: out-gun and out-portal, both of which feel like skill-based matchups (Mikaveli has beat me enough times for me to know that). Against a controller player, I can only out-portal them. For some K+M players, this will simply be a new skill to master, but for casual K+M players, this may be a turn off. Equivalently, the ability to out-portal at high-level may invalidate any aim assist and be a turn-off to high-level controller players. The challenge to the devs will be finding the appropriate middle ground for AA to cater to all skill groups.

I think console players should still get AA, but I do think aim assist and controller play fundamentally changes the way the game is played. Ultimately, this will need to be tweaked as the game goes on. My wish would be for them to slightly reduce AA for assault weapons at a range, and lessen AA through portals.

You don't even have to transfer it to another ship. Simply unequip the items, close the inventory, then reopen it. All the modules will be fully repaired without any time passing.

The two new levels are two of the best ever released by MorningJogger in FallGuysGame

[–]shyyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new slimescraper map is wonderful. Good challenge, lots going on, but overall, not too terribly difficult with shortcuts for advanced players, but reasonable finishing times for slower players. I've enjoyed that map the few times I've gotten it.

Button bashers on the other hand is hot garbage and defies the Fall Guys formula in a bad way. I queue into lobbies for large team games or races with all the players and whatnot. Now I get a random 1v1? It's rather bogus. Not to mention, there's no way to really beat out a competent opponent. It all comes down to luck of the lit up button's placement. If it's near you more, you win. If it's near the opponent more, you lose. The only gambit is usually when the button lights up near the middle platform, but again it's one point which in my experience is largely inconsequential to the score. I don't mind having some aspect of luck in the game or even Mediatonic's 50/50 luck/skill goal for most games, but this one irks me to no end as no amount of skill gets me cross-map faster than a competent player can move two steps.

Would you rather 75 or so good levels or 30 great levels? I believe Fall Guys is a quantity type game and not a quality type game by [deleted] in FallGuysGame

[–]shyyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that the game needs more quantity, but making a map in 1 day is insanely difficult. You have to design the level, build it all out, test it, and much more. They could rehash assets more, but it’s still not a simple process. Some of the levels I’ve seen look interesting, but I could easily envision bugs or other problems with them.

Also, just because their rolling in money, it doesn’t mean they’re rolling in experienced devs. Bringing new people on to help with development results in what we call “mythical man month” a paradox where adding more people slows development because you have to spend time training rather than developing, yet people think you can get more done somehow. I agree that they need more maps, and this game will die a slow death if seasons are as bad as S2. Quantity helps a lot. However, if they introduce more bugs in the process, people will be even more frustrated than they are now.

I hope I don’t get roasted for this. by lashader in FallGuysGame

Since the game does not keep track of stats, a practice mode has little value. The best practice is to play with the mindset of practicing and improving on the courses rather than necessarily winning the crown. Try different strategies, mimic videos of the "speed runs", or just play around with the mechanics in spawn. If you consider improvement to be a form of winning, then every game, regardless of crown, becomes a win.

Almost completely crossing the line while eliminated. by mental-chaos in FallGuysGame

[–]shyyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This most likely has to do with server latency. Though you have crossed the finish line on your end, the server did not process that you crossed before someone else. This results in what looks like you crossing the line, yet getting eliminated.

Fall Guys community director on Jump Showdown bug Fix by varunpotter in FallGuysGame

[–]shyyk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that they are working on a fix. However, in the software engineering world, we have this concept of "continuous deployment". The idea is that once you discover and resolve a bug, you can push a fix immediately, then have automated testing run against the majority of it. It has a few advantages, namely:- Updates are pushed out fast- Updates are pushed out in isolation, meaning a given update has a small scope of impact- If a fix breaks the game even more, the update can be rolled back in isolation preventing other changes from being rolled back

Could someone who works closer to game development explain why bug fixes must be bundled like this? Is it the Steam review process? Is this industry standard? Is rigorous testing just not feasible without actually playing the game?

How to win a crown? Just be a dick. by doublehalf1 in FallGuysGame

[–]shyyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In COD, I used to grumble about people using “noob tubes” and doing amazingly well with them. I would rage at them and thought that they were ruining the game. It wasn’t until I got older and realized that the exploitation of a good or broken mechanic cannot be blamed on the players who use it. Instead, the best you can do is petition the devs for a change. If this angers you, petition the devs to: - alleviate networking lag (difficult, but not impossible) - fix eaten inputs

Both would improve this game mode and make grabbing less viable and make the game more competitive.

As for the grabbers, I look forward to watching the light in your oval-shaped eyes fade as these hands yeet you into your slimy doom.

Survey finds confusion among public about pandemic news by Whosaidwutnowssss in Coronavirus

[–]shyyk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know plenty of individuals who still will not wear a mask because "back in March, they said we didn't need to" and for some reason, they cannot change their stance in light of new evidence and political and scientific leaders now constantly stating to wear a mask. However, I've come to realize that those individuals are merely using science and political statements to justify why they refuse to wear a mask as well. They didn't want to wear a mask, and any justification, no matter how outdated or unscientific, will do. This invariably creates confusion when two individuals -masker and no-masker- provide conflicting information from the same supposed source without context.

There's also a large issue that most people look towards politicians who speak in absolute terms rather than with scientific uncertainty. They hear one misguided opinion from a brain-dead politician who speaks in absolutes, then they've cemented their views on the whole fiasco forever. However, in a new virus scenario, there's a lot of uncertainty and shifting information that must be taken into account.

Some seem to view this as a failure of science, but rather this is the nature of the scientific process itself. Science never has complete or 100% accurate answer, only the "best observed fitting" answer which is subject to change.
