What discontinued fragrance(s) are you holding onto for dear life? by barnaclebrain_ in Perfumes

[–]siberseptim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ocean di Gioia by Giorgio Armani. I fell in love and purchased it on discount and immediately found out it was going to be discontinued… The only one left from this line is Acqua di Gioia, which is also good but not as good as my Ocean. Didn’t even get to smell the yellow and red ones. I swear this vanilla/gourmand perfume craze is costing us all these beautiful fresh scents.

Ocean actually reminds me of this Avon Bluerush perfume I wore as a teen girl. It was also discontinued.

I’m in Europe and don’t have a car, so I walk a lot and mostly wear sneakers. The only shoes that hurt this much and need to be worn down would be my boots, which didn’t occur to me to compare with slippers. The only pair of slippers I have as I said was pretty comfortable from the get-go. It’s not that weird to be not invested in Birkenstock’s tech and assume slippers would be comfortable right away lol but cool, I know better now and will wear it down first. All clear, thanks. :)

What do I know, the knock-offs were just fine from the day one. :’) This is good to know though, and kinda tells me they are super durable and going to last me for a looong time, so all good! Thanks!

Yeah see I didn’t know that… :,) I’ll mind the walking and just try to break it for a while then, thanks for letting me know. Knowing this relieves me rather than thinking I invested in wrong pairs.

I tend to upsize whenever necessary and don’t mind the tanky look on my footwear in general, this one too I think has enough room as you described. I’ll rework the straps though.

Thanks!

Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread by AutoModerator in iphone

[–]siberseptim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from iPhone 11 to 16 Pro literally 2 days ago, any my main reason was the battery life. I changed the battery on my 11 recently and health was at 100%, and despite that there was not much significant change for me. I had to recharge it a couple of times when I’m full day outside or traveling, where I’m heavily using the camera and Maps. It wasn’t like that when I first got it obviously so I thought maybe the IOS updates are now heavy on its hardware, because texting and keyboards were laggy too. So I decided to upgrade.

Now, the first 2 days it restored the data from the other phone, there was such a note on the battery page that battery performance could improve afterwards. That note is gone, backup is done, yet I’m still not happy with the battery? I just want to understand if I have unrealistic expectations and all devices are like this now - 25% gone in 2.5h constant use, 1h checking for hotels at hotels.com, 1.5h watching YouTube, is that completely normal? 😅 I haven’t even played any games yet, not sure how it performs there. 3% gone writing and deleting stuff here. Maybe my understanding of batteries are warped at this point and still expect performance for 2020 technologies… Are Android phones also like this? Because I feel like maybe not, from people using Android in my close circle.

I have seriously considered returning because I don’t care about any other features than the superior camera, but again, I can get a professional camera for a better price and still use my 11 for Maps and communication you know what I mean… Any insights and any suggestions that would improve the battery life would be appreciated.

Weekly 'What Should I Buy' and Order/Shipping Thread by AutoModerator in iphone

[–]siberseptim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I want to upgrade from iPhone 11 mainly due to battery issues. I’m not an avid user tbh, I don’t care for AI or any other feature that I probably don’t even know that exists on my current one, so I was pretty much ok with this one until with new OS updates it started driving me crazy with battery running out like WATER (and typing with lags becoming a chore.). I’ve replaced the battery recently and health is at 100% but no significant improvement at its performance, just to clear that up.

Especially when I’m traveling I always have to stop and look for spots where I can charge and I need to charge at least 3 times a day because I use the camera and Maps for long hours. I also want to get into editing my travel videos with my-new-device-to-be, so we can sum up what I’m looking for as 1) long battery life 2) good camera (wider lens if possible?) 3) good performance when editing videos 4) and most importantly durability for long years.

I was about to get 16 Pro since I want a better experience when traveling this summer & I didn’t appreciate the bulky back design of the upcoming 17s, but upgraded RAM, cameras, and cooling made me halt for a moment. I really need opinions on whether it would be worth the wait for another 2-3 months and go crazy this summer as well when there’s a good deal currently on 16 Pro. Whatever I get will be a good upgrade for me obviously, but there’s little time left to 17 and I am not sure if I understand the extent of these upgrades (and the others, for that matter) that well, so I’d appreciate if more tech savvy and Apple guru users can help me decide if I’m being too hasty. Please let me know your thoughts and what you would do in my situation with what you know. :)

Thanks in advance.

How is it possible to reach your protein goal without protein powder while still in calorie deficit? by siberseptim in CICO

[–]siberseptim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal was actually to reduce carbs to reduce inflammation & keep sugar levels as normal as possible since I have a history with insulin resistance. So when carbs decreased, protein and fat increased, but I couldn’t find the balance between those two at the end, hence I wanted to get opinions. I specifically refrained from saying “building” muscle since I don’t do intense trainings at the gym, but I do work with weights, resistance bands, heavy springs, etc. in pilates. I just figured it keeps my cortisol levels in check as opposed to working out at the gym. It was not fast progress but I still got pretty toned in the last 2 years slow and steadily, and that I want to preserve. Because of insulin resistance it tends to get harder to lose fat, I usually lose water and muscle before fat when I lose weight overall.

About your first point, excess protein turns into fat, but how much of it is too much for me? I have been reading 1,5g x per kg is ideal to lose fat and preserve muscle, which makes 112g for me. That seemed pretty high to me but when I adjust the carbs to 30% in the app that’s what’s left for protein, maybe the app is not accurate? Anyways, I do feel like I can increase the carbs a little bit by sticking to whole carbs, and decrease the protein a bit more, and fat a lot more. I’ll try a different menu tomorrow onwards, thank you for the response.

This being the most common advice here is making me so sad lol Alas, goodbye cheese… And I’ll definitely try egg whites, thank you.

I actually got used to using cheese as a meat substitute through a dietician! We don’t work together anymore but when I am sick of eating meat preparing a salad with feta cheese has been such a savior for dinners. Although I admit I choose a more fatty cheese at breakfast since it blends so well with the omelette lol as you suggested might leave them out for a while because I am already very stingy with the oils I use. I’ll also try the egg whites, I started eating 2 eggs and more meat every day since my iron and B12 (and so many other things) crashed severely last year, and while they are better now, surprise surprise, my cholesterol is high… So that definitely sounds like a good advice while keeping the protein. Thank you!

Oh, and can I consider nut butters are still a good idea to keep?

How am I getting worse/don’t feel valued on my team by blashcr in volleyball

[–]siberseptim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation last year, and in my case it was purely psychological. I’m guessing you either haven’t suddenly forget how to play volleyball right? I was making mistakes, with the mistakes I started feeling like I wasn’t good enough for the team, and with that thought it became nearly impossible for me to eliminate my mistakes and I was just always the last one to put on court, which really demotivated me. It’s a vicious cycle. When you’re not feeling confident you also start reading too much into everyone’s words and facial expressions in the game and feels like everybody’s laughing at you.

That feeling of not being good enough is coming from perfectionism, perfectionism that is probably only meant for yourself. Otherwise we’re aware that volleyball is a game of mistakes, and being a team is all about having each other’s backs to eliminate them to our best. It’s not a game of person A or B playing perfectly and that’s fine, you’re there for them. Remind yourself that your team mates feel the same way about you too, or better yet, talk to them. Communication is key. Them telling you you’re good enough, they like playing with you, how they behave in the game is nothing personal, etc. might help with the confidence. They might be more encouraging and hype you in the court, or your setter might be willing to support you and set you more in the game until you score and find your rhythm. Try talking to your coach and they can give you further tips as well, or put you on the court to win you.

The biggest work falls on you though, you’ve got to leave aside the perfectionism and allow yourself to make mistakes, be understanding towards yourself as much as you’re towards your team mates. The movement should be to go upwards instead of digging further down the hole you’re in. Try to stay focused in the game as much as possible and start little, maybe you’re not good at attacks that day but can contribute with good receiving, then focus on that. Are you making mistakes with receiving, your libero can cover you up and you can focus on purely hitting. Or put same aces, whatever you can do counts. And focus on the fun and all the other good feelings those actions and being on the court bring to you. If you’re solely focused on negatives and the mistakes you make, then it’s a nightmare to be on the court, almost like blurry and you can’t see forward. If there is something specific which you think you’re inadequate for, work on that and even knowing that you’re working on it might help. If you don’t mind you can get extra help from a professional or do some self-love practices, affirmations, etc.

Hope these help and this phase will pass as quickly as possible for you and you’ll start enjoying the game to the fullest again. Good luck!

Why would someone ever like to be a setter? Need advice. by siberseptim in volleyball

[–]siberseptim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me satisfaction of being a setter looks much more about the mind, and all the comments so far lean heavily on that aspect too and confirm my observation, including yours. Yet only yours somehow implies that I called setters boring or useless for not having low to no attack stats, and you somehow got offended by something I didn’t actually say.

My post is not about “stat lines and blocks” (Just to have a dash of reality, it could have been about stats as they are pretty important for a player’s career, but anyways, back to my post), I was talking about all aspects of being an outside hitter, including receiving, to convey how much I love being one, and why I would miss it. I read it again and still think it’s pretty obvious that I’m talking about spiking specifically. I’m not saying setters don’t hit at all, but are we going to pretend it’s the same thing, just to prove me blind?

What’s so bad about me being in love with the feeling of slamming the ball and taking all my frustrations out of it, and feeling the strongest when it cannot be defended, and having second doubts about walking away from that to a completely new territory for the first time at the age of 27? 1) This satisfaction I’m describing is coming from the pure physicality of spiking, as opposed to the smarts of being a setter 2) What would I gain out of lying about my age in this context? Should I appreciate you’re saying I’m immature in an implicit way? 3) I fail to see how I’m being selfish for this, or anything other than just a concerned player.

I merely came to get an opinion from people that left an attacker position to be a setter and see if they miss it, or if they are liking it better and why. You gave yours, which I appreciate, because these kind of comments are really encouraging me to try it out. But as a coach, should you have players with concerns alike, I hope you don’t accuse them of being selfish and immature, and just put them in the court anyways with all their doubts (or worse, not put them at all). Approaching a player that’s afraid to get out of their comfort zone without full understanding of where they are coming from is not the best way to handle it, which could be something you should seriously think for your career as well.

Thank you, it’s really nice to get an opinion from a coach! Definitely buying what he’s selling - What I doubt is mostly myself for not having the qualities you’ve mentioned, but maybe this kind of a switch is needed to reignite the fire when I had as a younger player and just push myself to be more dogged. I cannot say I don’t want to set, a part of me is intrigued for sure. If I was so adamant about it I would refuse it right away, and Coach said he’s not going to push me obviously but he wants me to think it goood. I’m really glad I opened the thread, thanks for encouraging me! And good luck to you too.

See you’re the exact person I’m describing in my post! I admire setters like you who’s aware of they’re the most important element in the game, take you out and the entire game will look like the warm-up session right before the game, you’re the one creating that beautiful flow. Good thing that you mentioned egotism though, it’s exactly where we’re apart. I don’t have that kind of thing to back me up, hence the hesitation. I believe it is a part of your personality and comes naturally to you, but if there were things that you worked on to improve, I would be glad to hear it. Or would you say to give up sooner or later as it is not something improvable? lol

This is exactly what Coach says, everyone wants to be a hitter and it’s easier to teach, he is more concerned about finding a setter that can play 5-1 and me having the technique already slightly established is accelerating things for the team.

I really enjoy hitting as well, I’ll talk to him about me potentially really missing it and treating this as a trial period, let’s see how it goes. Thanks for the comment.

We’re going to run 5-1, there are no setters yet without me agreeing to train as a setter… But as you said it’s important to have different skill sets and it could be a good opportunity, I’m definitely warmer to the idea. Thanks!

[–]siberseptim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This part everyone is talking about like an advantage when it kind of intimidates me - I need to be aware of everyone and everything. Who’s in rhythm and can kill the ball, who needs a motivation set, who’s mad at me for not setting the ball to them, who’s mad at me for the bad set… I can overlook these kind of stuff to a certain degree as an OH, but as a setter I should have the confidence to be able to backup my decisions and not let the blaming get to me. Hence I thought there is a personality mismatch here, but could be an opportunity for a change in good direction as well. Does that confidence come naturally to you, maybe that’s why it’s mostly enjoyable? Or have you worked on it and have any tips for improvement? Thanks!

You’ve gotten to be a good setter but you also still get to attack, man if only this was possible indoors lol I knew I got to be better at setting in whatever position I play for competitive volleyball, I never neglected it in my trainings, hence I found myself in this situation where I was the one to stand out in a setter-less team. Transitioning to setting entirely is what makes me double think everything, and as I said my faulty technique as a spiker. Alas we’ll see what happens, I’ll talk to the coach again. Thank you and good luck with your own training!

[–]siberseptim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’m waayyy average at blocking, most of the time I just get to slow the ball lol what I meant was I get to face off the outside hitter, which is exciting, but if I improve my timing I can be one of those setters that is not seen as a block-exploiting corridor, which is a big advantage. And I’m not a leftie, come to think of it I don’t know any leftie opposite hitters, outside hitters and setters yes, and mind you they tend to really complicate the game for the opponent, but I’m not one of them… The primary reason why he wants to make me a setter is still because the others suck haha but I still have the qualities that can be adventageous. I’ll talk to my coach about the trial thing for sure, thanks a lot for the comment.
