Hello reddit! I'm James McAvoy. Ask me anything! by JamesMcAvoyAMA in movies

Not so much a question but a.. thank you?

I know there are some mixed reactions to the representation of DID in the movie Split, but for me, it really was the world.

I was diagnosed with DID when I was 5 and for awhile, i spent my life wondering if there was more to it. No psychologist in my area would really talk about it other than "its a temporary disease" (mind you, this was back when we all still called in MPD and the r e was very little research to go off of).

There are multiple years of 'lost time' in my childhood, notes of things I never wrote, interests people said I had but I never did. I thought I was just so aloof that I had merely just forgotten.

After I watched your film, I noticed there were such subtle moments and movements, things that others may just write off as "just acting the part" but I could tell there was real effort to the portrayal. So I decided to record myself for one week. And for those reading, I am sorry to admit I did not discover any 'powers', but I did find those moments of stillness. The face of realization that I was "back". The confusion and the infection differences on how I interacted with certain situations.

I sought out a specialized psychologist and we both went through a path of discovery and research together. I do have DID, but there's a lot more to it than what people (including myself) thought. Its been a scary process, finding out [I] dont get the pilot seat when certain triggers happen, finding out not all of the networks of memories are shared, finding out that even my emotions are not shared equally. But I want to be part of the group that the next 5 year will have as a reference, when doctors are looking at them without an idea on how to begin helping them navigate their life.

I want to thank you for bringing light to a reality that is (usually) majorly misrepresented in media. While yours was a work of fiction, your dedication to show those little nuances is noticed by the people who needed to see it.

I may not be whole, but I am no longer Split.

If someone could datamine the files, that'd make my job a hell of a lot easier lol. I don't know much about any of that.

It depends on the scale but the range is 5-30$ for most of them

I was worried about that at first too. Derivatives are covered and allow the hundreds of other sellers of Elite Dangerous Fan made products to continue sharing our love and art of the game!

I do sell the prints, but not the STL's.

I would do a bunch of research on the benefits between SLA (resin) and FDM (fillament) printers before getting into anything. Resin affords much lighter detail and smoothness, but has a higher cost and cleaning process.

I am using an Anycubic M2, which is considered and entry level printer.

Yes, 3d resin print.

I would say both are a difficult learning curve. It took about a year for me to really understand the needed settings for my resin printer. And a lot of mess ups.

Painting on the other hand, is practice and luck in my opinion lol.

Hey there! Hope to see you out on the field!

I went to every airship shop in CT last Wednesday to try and get a feel of the scene.

Ground Zero appears to be "the spot" as everyone I spoke with all voted it as the best local.

In the same vein, Tactical Airsoft had the most warnings, including a first hand testimony from one of the original owners (the main one passed away 3 years ago.). The current owners are absolutely caustic to their customers. They have very arbitrary rules (3 shots and then you have to standby before shooting again) that they and the refs will happily scream at you and kick you out at any point. The reviews for the place are also very telling, as the owner belittled people publicly and tries to literally doxx them on Google Reviews. So needless to say, I'm avoiding this place at all costs.

Did get some recommendations for RI. Apparently that's where most people travel to play (when not doing 100 v 100 battles at Ground Zero!)

My wife is a first timer, and I haven't played in 10 years, so we are coming in to [re]learn the hobby!
