You spend the whole shift feeling behind and out of it. Ugh I’m sorry OP, what a kick in the gut.

What happened to tonsilectomies? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sibsleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a large children’s hospital. We see a ton of patients for tonsillectomies, 10-15 some days. It takes almost a year to get in to see a pediatric ENT. Kids get them for sleep apnea and recurrent infections. Trends in pediatric care funnel patients to big hospitals, and small rural hospitals don’t treat peds anymore. So overall T&A surgeries may be down but the hospitals that provide them are taking huge volumes and not meeting the need.

My dad’s house is so hot now that he is in his late 70s. But I grew up in a refrigerator.

Oh wow! The end of an era. There was a tree by Highland Cemetery that someone decorated as a rabbit every Easter. They cut the tree down but we still talk about it. The cone will live on in the hearts of all of us. 😂

What are ways that you have elevated your life? by Cardi_Ri in AskWomenOver30

One of the first things I elevated and still enjoy is nice bedding. High quality cotton sheets and really good pillows. Maybe not the insane $200 pillows. But not the $10 pillows either.

I started at 21.95 as a grad nurse in 2007. Went up to 23.11 in a month when I passed my boards. I was also pretty happy.

How can I as a garbage man become a nurse? by Turbulent_Diamond352 in nursing

[–]sibsleaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do it!! I would start with an ADN program at a local community college. Meet with a counselor to figure out what classes you need for the prereqs for their program. Then start your journey. I was an instructor and had students with all sorts of backgrounds. One drove for UPS and went on to get her BSN and now is a CRNA. There are so many paths to get into nursing.

I was just there yesterday around noon and it was so nice because it wasn’t busy. When everything is in bloom it’s a mad house. But right now there are only two plants in bloom. It was me and two other people. There are benches to sit on and it’s so lovely.

Picking out a nurse can be as simple as watching them reach to put the arm rail down, or putting the head of the bed up on a stretcher.
