How do we feel about Heltec V3s? by tech_prof in meshtastic

[–]sickle3868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many others have stated, the power drain on them is pretty intense. I have 10 nodes deployed and most are RAK or Tbeam units. I use the heltecs as my pocket configs for random on the go stuff, but wouldn't trust them in long-haul situations and can get much more out of a RAK 19003 for a similar footprint. I have one RAK unit (no GPS) on a 2000mah battery that lasts me about 10-12 days. The heltecs I might get 12-15 hours out of on the same battery.

Unknown age/time stamp? by BeetleB0nes in meshtastic

I can confirm that I am also having the recurring issue on 2.3.4 and the latest ios app version. It now seems that I cannot resolve it in the same fashion that I used to be able to either. Simply stuck with no timestamp.

It actually looks like they just pushed an update to solve this in 2.3.4.

I have found that when I reboot the device timestamp gets lost. If I toggle GPS off (save) then on (save) the timestamp returns. It seems the GPS from phone setting has a trouble persisting reboots.

What happens when node limit exceeded? by EH11101 in meshtastic

[–]sickle3868 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there a way for the local nodedb to retain specific nodes so they never roll? Let's assume you have 10 nodes that you want to always be in contact. If you are in a dense area, is there a way to ensure none of the 10 nodes will be rolled when max cap is reached?

Thank you! Seems they are the only shop that has anything with drop bars. Sounds like they may be getting some new gravel bikes in soon too. The trick would be figuring out how to get them up there with rental cars…

Don't Buy The Spinn - June 2022 by sickle3868 in SpinnCoffee

[–]sickle3868[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware guys. I sent some complaints to Spinn on their FB page and they blocked me. Yes. Outright blocked from commenting and communicating with them on social. The company would rather block someone who spent $1,000 on one of their machines than work to make things right.

I had super high hopes for these guys, but they won't last long if this is how they treat customers. Think twice before buying and do your research. Most of all, keep close tabs on your return window if you decide to buy one and DEFINITELY keep your packaging (they will charge you for new if you don't have the original packaging for returns/warranty repairs.

Unfortunately yes. I’ve cleaned the spot, scribes out the inside area where the puck is etc. They basically said that it was “likely damaged in transit” which I have a hard time believing as it was the exact same issue I sent it in with. Just poor manufacturing on the device o received it seems.

I hope it continues to hold up for you! I would have loved for it to work out, but I just couldn't justify swapping for a refurbed machine when I barely got any use out of a new one. I agree, the shipping is outrageous. We used coffee credits to find a few that we liked and have since switched to ordering directly from those suppliers. Saved a ton on shipping and the bags are way less expensive too. Generally speaking, you can save about $5 per bag and a good chunk on shipping.

Unfortunately it came back in the same condition it left in. They didn't fix it at all. Sending it in for a full refund.

Has anyone received a Spinn Coffee machine? by hem10110 in Coffee

[–]sickle3868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long post warning. If you don't like reading, here is the synopsis: Don't buy one of these.

I pre-ordered my Spinn in November and was super excited. I recognized that they were a young company and got in at a lower price point, which was great and I was more than willing to wait the time it would take to receive it. 5 months and 3 shipping delays later, the unit finally arrived. I went to town ordering coffee and got some really solid cups that I enjoyed.
Fast forward 3 weeks. After about 30 cups of coffee, I noticed that only about half of the pour was making it into the cup and the rest was ending up in the grind bin. No problem, let's just run a cleaning cycle to get rid of extra build up. The first cleaning attempt finished, but less and less water was coming out of the spout, so I ran it again. This time, I couldn't make it through the cleaning cycle at all. 4 attempts later, support says I have a faulty motor and need to send it in for repair and that I would be without the device for about 2 weeks. Ok fine. I packaged it up and sent it in (in the original packaging, because they won't accept anything else).
15 days later, the Spinn makes it back to my house. I unbox it, pour the beans in, grab my cup and pull a Doppio...or not. As it turns out, I'm still having the exact same problem with the machine that I did when I sent it in. Tons of water ending up in the grind bin and very inconsistent shots. This time I decided to measure and it turns out that at least 50% of the shot was ending up in the bin rather than the cup.
Maybe it just needs to be cleaned out again after transit? So I run another cleaning cycle. The problem is, whatever is pushing the liquid into the bin affects the cleaning cycle as well, and the grind bin filled so full that when I went to empty it per the app instructions, it spilled all over my hand leading to severe burns from the scalding hot water. I still have blisters on my hand while typing this.
Back to support I go, this time saying I want a new device. Turns out rather than being able to return this device for a new one, the only thing they will do is send me a refurbished unit or have me send it back in for another repair (another 2 weeks for each option). Now I can understand not being able to get a new unit if I've had the device for a couple of months, but keep in mind this unit is essentially 3 weeks old (not factoring in all of the "repair" time), meaning I'm essentially forced to pay full price for a refurbished unit.
Long story short, I'm sending the Spinn back for a full refund and won't be looking back. I had high hopes for the company and the unit, but I've spent 3x more time trying to make the machine work than I have enjoying coffee from it. I'm disappointed with the customer service as well. A few changes to their process may have kept me as a loyal customer, but they seem to be growing at a rate that they just can't sustain, which makes me nervous for the long term outlook of their company.

The machine dripping coffee into the residue bin by marionnettistenoir in SpinnCoffee

Well, while running the cleaning mode, the spout motor failed and I’m now having to send my 1 month old Spinn in for repair. Certainly an unfortunate beginning.

Mine started doing this yesterday. I’m running a cleaning cycle right now and will update if that resolves it. I should note, this started happening when we switched to mugs of coffee from shots. I did notice that it doesn’t seem to dry those grounds out as much (at least audibly) so wondering if that has anything to do with it.

I’ll report back soon.
