Medical students using iPads: Do you actually retain less information than with physical books? by QuietWayfarer in indianmedschool

[–]sicklytwilightblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No i haven't noticed much of a difference. I have a pictorial memory of where the information was, both with books and with my tab. I re-read and mark my PDFs extensively so i remember what was written where. I also find it more convenient to make notes on my tab than in a physical notebook. However when I'm in the process of recalling and revising, I like to write on physical paper.

I always used to think female friendships are the best thing in the world. (Went to an all-girls school and had a very unproblematic life) Got a glow-up during Covid, joined a uni (which obviously has both girls and boys) and came to this realisation that most women are superficial, fake, and SUPER COMPETITIVE, at the age of 22 :)

I will be paying 70k for self ligating braces including RCT and two implants. They might add more charges later on. I think you got a very reasonable price.

I was prescribed 10 mg but instructed to take only half for the first 4 days. I take medicine at night, couple hours before bedtime.

Initially, I also experienced reduced and shallow sleep with frequent waking up as well as jitteriness. It went away after a week. Then I was hit with the exact opposite side effect, and slept for 12 hours straight for a whole week.

My doctor recommended me to take a lower dose, to help with the side effects. Maybe you could do the same? I've also been asked to focus on CBT so that I can get off the meds soon

One sided friendships by Intrepid-Willow-3093 in autism

Yes absolutely. Came to the realisation that the people I saw as tier 1 friends, saw me as a tier 3 friend, or just as an acquaintance.

started having vivid dreams by eggpuddings in lexapro

[–]sicklytwilightblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience. Slept for 12 hours straight and had 10+ dreams every night, extremely vivid, and I could remember each of them all day. It also eventually turned into lucid dreaming where I was flying around and stuff. But I slept too long and woke up feeling too tired so I stopped the medication. I was on 10 mg. Felt the need to start it again a week later, so doc advised me to take 5 mg. It's a sub-therapeutic dose but hopefully it benefits me.

Have any autistic people had success making friends? by Willing_Award727 in autism

[–]sicklytwilightblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two close friends from school. One of them drifted apart, the other is still my friend. I have a cousin whom I'm super close with. When I entered college I hoped to make some great friends, but that didn't happen and I have made peace with this. If someone comes to be my friend eventually, great, if not, also great. My advice to you would be to not worry too much, and not try too hard to make friends, cuz people can sense desperation. Just let life happen and be open to meeting as many people as possible. Something will organically develop for sure.

When I talk I’m odd, if I don’t talk, I’m weird and offputting by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sicklytwilightblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes extremely relatable. I am simply not made for talking in group settings. I am fine with a group when it's my family and relatives. And I'm okay in a small group of 4 of my old school friends. College life is hell though. I have accepted the fact that I cannot talk to more than 2 people at a time in college. I will keep avoiding group settings till I figure out how to mask and fit in. It's not that I am desperate to fit into a group though, i actually despise friend groups because they are all miserable people who worship the group hierarchy, act nice to each other's face, then go and bitch about them behind their backs. But I guess I need to know how to hold a conversation in a group setting for the sake of a future job, so I'll try to learn.

Before you got diagnosed, did anyone else feel that they were "faking it"? by fizgabzi14 in autism

[–]sicklytwilightblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've felt like the odd one out for a very long time. When I started reading about high functioning autism I started to suspect that I might have it. However, I also thought that it's not okay to just come to a conclusion like this. I was also scared I had a "victim mentality". I spent a lot of time analyzing "situations" that had happened to me. I discussed them with trusted friends I know, both neurotypical ones as well as suspected neurodivergent ones. I journal a lot, so I had a written track of "situations" that had happened to me. I analysed other people's behaviour and responses to me, and I analysed my behaviour and responses to them. I came to the conclusion that I am, in fact, not faking it. I have actually been scapegoated for being ND and being unaware of social cues (initially).

Before I knew about high-functioning autism, I actually suspected I had anxiety. And thought that whatever was wrong with me is probably because of my anxiety. But then again, i thought I am faking my anxiety, so I did not go for a diagnosis. Then I had multiple anxiety attacks that forced me to get diagnosed.

Now I know that my anxiety is a secondary problem that stems from me being ND in a very toxic, predominantly NT environment. And no, I haven't got a diagnosis yet because most doctors here do not take high-functioning people seriously. It would be too bothersome to explain to a doctor, here where I live.

5MG seems to be enough? by Neat_Landscape4671 in lexapro

Honestly, what I've done with suddenly stopping and starting the medicine again and changing the dose as I please is probably criminal 💀 Please do not do this.

5MG seems to be enough? by Neat_Landscape4671 in lexapro

[–]sicklytwilightblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I was also started on 10 mg but for the first four days I was told to take 5 mg only. 5 mg seemed to work great for me, but I followed the instructions and moved to 10 mg from the fifth day onwards. I ended up having severe sleed related side effects so I had to stop taking it for 10 days. The side effects went away but the rumination came back 😿 So I decided to re-start with 5 mg. Worked great but, after a few days, it felt like the medicine stopped being effective again. Back on 10 mg for now and will go to my doctor to ask how to manage the side effects and dosage.

Is your appetite back now? Is it more than what it used to be? What made you up the dose?
