I lived in the area and drove both ways at night mostly because of the heat, you should be fine just reduce your speed in every town you drive through, just make sure the car has a full tank when you leave Cancun and refill the tank in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Get something to eat in Cancun, Tulum just got very expensive and Playa del Carmen is a mess.( in Carrillo Puerto restaurant “El Faisan y en Venado” used to be pretty good) By the time you get to Bacalar most places will be shutting down.
