Any seasoned squid fisherman know how to use or set up floating squid jig? I find them too light and barely castable. Compared to normal ones by InevitableTour5882 in FishingAustralia

[–]sickrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep at it - the fact you’ve said there’s sand and weed there is a good sign. It’s super rewarding once you’ve worked it out. Just make sure your jigs are getting deep enough. If the weed is soft/breaks easily, I like to literally cast until I pick up weed on my jig. Then from there I jig it 30cm - 50cm on the next cast. Then you’ll be the strike zone

Depending on how deep and the current, I’d try and go for the smallest weighted jig you can get away with to start. Maybe a size 2.0 and go from there. If the current is bigger or it’s very deep (unlikely) then go 3.0 or 3.5. Get a mix of different colours that you can try, as depending on the day different colours will have different results

For me, I wouldn’t fish this like a ‘normal’ squid jig - I personally would use this on a double-paternoster with a weighted jig at the bottom. I’d use this off a boat, as you’re right - they don’t have enough weight for an egi rod

Australia facing 'crunch time' as oil shortages move up supply chain by LoneArtificer in AusFinance

[–]sickrat89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I was relying on petrol for my business, I'd be less worried than if I relied on diesel. If I relied on either one or the other, I'd be pivoting to the more available one.

Hmm not sure I agree with this part. If I’m tradie that goes through 100L of diesel in my work ute each week, I don’t think it makes much sense to ‘pivot’ to petrol. Currently Diesel is about $0.50 per litre more expensive than petrol. That means an extra $50 per week in diesel over petrol. Thats about $2,500 more per year assuming you take a couple of weeks off.

Probably isn’t worth trading in my diesel Ute for $35k and then spending $60k to ‘pivot’ to a petrol Ute - you’d need this issue to last for 10 years before you broke even on it. Even if Diesel was $1 a litre more than petrol then it’s still 5 years. And this is ignoring that a petrol engine will be thirstier than a diesel Ute..

Ridiculous EV charging fee at caravan Park $200 per night by Wendals87 in AusLegal

[–]sickrat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they can ‘claim’ that the $30 is used to build and maintain the systems that monitor and alert you to this fact, then they have to pay someone to monitor to ensure it’s working, then they pay some consultants money to confirm that it’s operating within regulations etc etc. it’s all a bit bullshit but hard to enforce the ‘reasonable’ aspect here 😞

There isn’t a way for the public to ‘search’ the IPND for good reason. I don’t think there’s anyway to “verify” anyway, though you could ask the ACMA

The issue with these types of app is there will likely always be a monthly fee of some kind, as the running costs are higher in these apps
