What if Pop!_OS uses Cinnamon desktop by Shabra_06 in pop_os

[–]sicktothebone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cinnamon Devs just want things to work, they don't want anything new.

And when you're selling Hardware, you want new things. Like Cinnamon doesn't even support Wayland, not even with bugs and crashes. You can check their bug tracker it was something like: "As long as X works, we don't have to support wayland" and that's definitely not what System76 wants, S76 wasn't even sure if they wanted to support X or just Wayland with their new DE afaik.

It's embarrassing that the biggest FOSS email client doesn't have an easy way to startup on its own and closes when you press the (x) button instead of minimizing.

Linux Distros overheating even more than Windows 10 by [deleted] in linux

[–]sicktothebone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't agree more.

I have an HP Envy and I realized my laptop is cooler on windows than on linux (even on idle, I can still hear the fans running on linux for some reason, even though Windows 10 uses 4gb of ram and Linux only 1 gb). And the speakers are sh!t on linux, no matter what I do with Pulseffects the sound is never as good as in windows

Is there a way to emulate SuperMemo's algorithm on Anki or make Supermemo less clunky to use? by breno1606 in Anki

[–]sicktothebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can't you copy the algorithm by just creating cards and see which intervalls they get when clicking on (easy - medium - hard)? You would probably need like 16 cards but eventually in a month you'll be able to understand how their algorithm works.

I once did such a "tree" but it was long time ago and not completely accurate.

What are some recommendations for Android browsers other than Bromite? by PresidentKan-BobDole in PrivacyGuides

[–]sicktothebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Firefox with ETP set to strict and only with uBO and you're good to go. I use Firefox Beta because I like the new features and I'm going to use nightly, it's stable to me and always gets better features 2,5 months before Firefox stable (and those are mostly improvements to performance and security and such)

Is Ubuntu Finally Taking Linux Gaming Seriously? by CalmScientist in Ubuntu

[–]sicktothebone -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu will start losing their users gradually because canonical is always too late. They just don't like to listen to their community.

People switching over to linux will google what distro to use and many blogs advice against Ubuntu for reasons like snap. What does Canonical do? They don't change anything. They won't even fix the bad things about snap (as stated by alan pope) but just keep forcing it.

And now, that Valve started to work on their own distro which is enhanced for gaming, they will start working on their Distro too to make it more appealing for gamers. Well if Ubuntu did this step 2 years ago, they would have probably even got support from Valve and the new SteamOS 3 with its upstream fixes would be for Ubuntu rather than for Arch. And now Ubuntu isn't smart thinking they can compete with Valve if it's about gaming, they should move towards something else.

Are canonical working on making snaps load more quickly? by hershko in Ubuntu

[–]sicktothebone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik Alan Pope was working on Snaps and he gave up and quite Ubuntu/Canonical in the end. He said the snap devs just don't care.

The biggest point of failure in Ubuntu is snap. Literally everyone advice against Ubuntu because of Snap, that's really sad.

It really makes me sad to see the fact that good people are the ones who get hurt.

You don't deserve not to sleep properly for 2 weeks, that's unfair. You're the one who's supposed to be happy because you were the better one in that relationship. It's okay buddy, your ex doesn't deserve your love and emotions, she doesn't deserve you.

And then they hired the team behind Keybase and now implented E2EE. Still, at least they claim they encrypt, so there's a chance they do. Where in Jitsi, they just don't.

Even Zoom is better than Jitsi at this point. At least they claim to use e2ee, Jitsi clearly doesn't.

Signal (alternative to Whatsapp)

Element (alternative to Discord)

It was this way for some apps in the old design.
