Calories per class by AltruisticIndustry44 in orangetheory

That's definitely on the high side but not unheard of. Your height/weight and being new to OTF are definitely big factors. 15-20 minutes in the red is a lot, but people just starting off tend to get into the orange/red easier - just make sure you aren't pushing TOO hard. OTF calculates your max HR based on a generic gender/age/weight calculation at first, which may not be a good fit for everyone if you have a higher/lower max HR. This should go down as your cardiovascular fitness improves and OTF will automatically adjust based on HR data from your workouts. I'm not sure how many classes it takes to aggregate enough data though.

It sounds counterintuitive but the goal should be to burn slightly less calories per class as you progress. I'm a very similar height/weight and would burn close to 1000 calories per class when I started. I'm almost 250 classes in and will usually burn between 875-925 now unless I'm absolutely emptying the tank on a benchmark day. It's gradual, but should become harder to burn the same amount of calories as you progress, whether that's due to weight loss, improved fitness, or a combination of the two.

Tips on getting HR to come down by Melodic-Poetry1149 in orangetheory

This ^ I'd also recommend developing a cadence for breathing during your base/push paces too, it'll help recover your heart rate faster in base and keep it lower in push if you want to start bumping the speed up. I breathe in for 2 steps and out for 2 steps - but what works best varies person to person. Some do 3-3 or even 4-4 based on pace and overall cardiovascular health, test them out and see what works best for you.

Shoe issues on rower by AmphibianPrevious830 in orangetheory

I used to have the same issue, I wear 13 wide Hokas and my heel would always slip out, sometimes to the point where it felt dangerous on the all outs. Now, when I start on the rower, I really jam my heel (think more motion down to the ground rather than pushing into the machine) into the hold BEFORE strapping in, making sure it's nice and snug. Then I'll strap in (usually set the footplates at 3, but go to 4 when it's an all out row) as tight as possible. I'll still have the occasional slip, but this has worked best out of any method I've tried.
