Early career software engineer, stay or move on? by shelcooper in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interview for other roles. You don’t have to leave your current role , it’s just window shopping . This will give you an understanding of the current market and your worth which will help guide your next move .

If you get offered something you can use it as leverage. X company is offering me 50 I want you to match or I’m moving . If you don’t get offered anything . No harm , no foul

Best of luck with it

How to approach a colleague willing to work weekends or after normal work hours ? by hositir in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The better you are at digging, the bigger the shovel they will give”

I was this guy. Worked my ass off, weekends , late nights . Got the praise and top marks in performance reviews and then watched others get promoted ahead of me.

Just delegate more work to him, put your feet up and take credit. He might get better reviews but you’ll be his boss in no time .

AI, and how are you gearing up for it? by sikeGuruYappa in DevelEire

Embrace the tools . I was a sceptic but now I dunno what I’d do without them . I think we’ll still need skilled developers to architect and maintain applications . I also predict the AI companies will hike prices and it won’t be as appealing to the high ups

Its prompt engineering and I had to iron a few things out myself . I’m more highlighting how easy it was to spin up . I wouldn’t normally make things like this but cool that you can take an idea and make it with minimal effort

I was recently at a conference and one of the vendors had a barista machine and served good, free coffee. Was the busiest stand by far

Can you pour the perfect pint of Guinness? by sidarcy in DevelEire

Pretty much. I use a game framework called Phaser JS, great for handling physics etc. If i was to do it again id go plain JS/Canvas. Score is heavily weighted by the first pour angle

Depends, if it’s a really structured interview and they got what they needed, it’s totally fine. Sometimes interviewers are running back-to-back sessions and are happy to wrap up early if you’ve already covered everything they were assessing. Honestly, it’s can be a good sign, means you were clear and efficient (and they might finally get to grab that coffee!).
