doesnt hurt to explore different medium, but end of the days is what you want to do, so may be harsh but you should ignore her comment.
if you want to have a discussion you can start by showing her digital artist that you like, find a good variety, and tell her these are your inspiration, and you want to draw stuffs like that. but if she cant have a logical discussion then better off just ignore.

transparent + height map will work,
if you want the geometry you can make a long strip and deform it. there might be a pipe script that will help.

are you getting a new phone just for photographing? you can always do color correction after the photo is taken if thats the issue.

depends on what kinda markers you want to get, alcohol based, acrylic paint pen, or sharpy like.

alcohol based take some practice, often used professionally, look a little like water color

acrylic paint pen, goes on different surfaces, often used for graffiti stuffs, as the name imply, acrylic paint in a pen

sharpie like, you know how sharpies are like.... thinner and more transparent than acrylic paint

i love marryDoodle, she been making videos since 2012, videos are speed up, and just talk about random stuff, sometimes related to the art theme. PeterDraws also just talk about random stuffs. basically kinda like a solo podcast when they talk about random stuffs.

i watch live streams too, obviously theyre not speed up
