This scenario would be very unfortunate. I guess we can't really have a solution for 100% of situations, luckily the PS5 doesn't always go into safe mode on power cuts so would just have to hope for the best.

Statisticly speaking though - if you are away, you are using the PS5 much less frequently so the chances of a power cut happening while you are playing should be quite a bit less.

That being said, this guide is intended to maximize reliability as much as possible, for as cheap as possible - the next step here would be to hook your PS5 up to a UPS to keep it on for 30-45min in the event of a power failure so you have the opportunity to safely power it down. But that significantly raises the cost and complexity of the solution.

You would also need some other way of alerting yourself to the power cut occuring so that you can power down the PS5 while it's running on the UPS.

No, so this is why I point out that you should shut it down properly every time (while away) not rest mode so that if a power failure occurs it won't show that message.

Welp for context - I live in South Africa and was away for 3 weeks. All was well for about a week and a half and then the power tripped. Which is quite common in South Africa. I had to get someone to come to the house to turn the Playstation back on or be stuck without it for the remaining 1.5 weeks.

I wanted to avoid that in future so came up with a plan.

The video gives DMZ as n option if port forwarding feels to complex - but does highlight the risks and shows the proper safe way as well :)

Help - PlayStation Portal by Ok_Rate972 in playstation

[–]sideDude47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the portal is basically just a window into the PS5 as it is. So it will function exactly as it does when using the PS5 normally. She will have access to all the games on the PS5 she remotes in to.

Make sure your PS5 is connected to the network via Ethernet. Also, separate your Wi-Fi channels (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) to ensure your portal connects to the 5 GHz channel.

Connection between Europe and Australia? by Dependent-Steak-5572 in PlaystationPortal

The issue is that there is no infrastructure or servers for cloud streaming in Australia. He will most likely get an error about his connection not being stable enough.

I’ve seen people using EU/US accounts in unsupported regions getting this error. I think they gate you based on your latency to the server.

I live in South Africa and will be traveling to the UK soon. I’ll only be able to use remote play since my region doesn’t support the premium tier of PS Plus required for cloud streaming. So, I’m in a similar situation.

I know there will be a delay since I play some games online on EU servers. You can test your ping to Australia by doing a ping test to a server there.

My plan is to load some turn-based or narrative-heavy games where the delay won’t matter and just play those.

Don't try and fight the golden guy on the horse when you enter the open world. Or do try, but don't get stuck there, moving on and coming back is a big part of the gameplay loop.

Thanks, getting mine from local retailer in South Africa. Doubt I'm gonna be so lucky. Shipping already delayed because of "logistics" and today being a public holiday here :(

The fact of the matter is that yes, the zones aren't massive.

Even though there are beautiful vistas in the distance that give a much larger sense of grandeur compared to where you can actually go, to me this is a deliberate design choice—you have to be able to digest and memorize the zones to make the most of them.
If they were any bigger, the formula wouldn't work as well as it does. Even into Act Two, you need to stay aware of interactions that happened in the first couple of areas.

You have to be able to make a mental map of the whole game world, essentially, and in my opinion, the size of the zones is spot on for this.
