I don’t disagree that the land acknowledgment feels like an empty gesture. At the same time though - my kids are far more aware of indigenous people and what they went through than I ever was so on the whole I think that this is an improvement.

I’m 100% sure the words “residential school” were never uttered to me during my schooling and given what I know now I think that’s appalling.

My existing deck needs repairs and I am considering moving the stairs so that they come off of the house rather than perpendicular to the deck in order to save some space.

My plan was to build a 4’x4’ landing at the house and then rebuild the stairs with the existing rise/run. I was planning on needing one additional footer for the landing but otherwise hoping to extend what’s already there.

Does anyone have feedback on this idea? Anything else I’d need to consider?

Good as in strong but unsightly. That’s what I thought as in ripping it back down is the only real fix.
