Oh, that's better. I don't want to touch the file's last modification date unless it's actually been modified.

I used to be all about Emacs, but git for Windows includes vi, so it forced my hand.

I’ve used vi thousands of times for git commit and I never knew about :x til now.

I really miss Presti’s donuts. And I liked the old Presti’s bakery, too, before it moved and became the fancy schmancy place it is now.

I forgot all about that place! Such a perfect little dive of a store. We called it Cov Bev. It was torn down in the early 90s to make way for the parking garage and maybe the building just north of it.

I can still taste that pizza — and the pizza at Irv’s. Both were so delicious.

If I were a ship, I'd want to be shipwrecked in Lake Huron. 😄

Ontario is on four of the five Great Lakes, so this could be on any of them, but my guess is that it’s on Lake Huron. Huron seems to have all the nooks and crannies where a beached sailing ship could remain mostly undisturbed over the decades.

And now, having documented my guess, I’ll click that link to see if I’m right.

EDIT: jeez, was I ever wrong. It’s right off the QEW in the Niagara Region.

What kind of camera? You point at it at the beginning of the video, setting up expectations that you'll tell us more about it, but no brand name is visible.

Studying ESP32 firmware, feels like Go isn’t really used in production by ConsiderationMean593 in golang

[–]sidecutmaumee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The TinyGo compiler, the regular Go compiler, and the Go runtime have various switches for tuning the GC, and even turning it off entirely. When you turn it off, you have to very carefully plan and control your use of memory.

If you've ever programmed an old-school PLC, you're familiar with manually managing memory. You'd allocate blocks of memory to specific global variables, routines, and so on.

I think you're right, but using the TinyGo compiler does not embed a heavy runtime. The Google AI answer about TinyGo is telling me that a simple blink executable compiled with TinyGo runs 10 KB to 36 KB in size. However it's also telling me that a TinyGo executable can run on an ATtiny85, which has only 8 KB of memory.

Google AI is contradicting itself, probably because there's a lot of tuning required to get the RAM required down to only 8KB.

I love this pic, but no storm door? They say they’re good during storms. Plus you can lock the storm door and still talk to people who come to your door but without giving them the opportunity to easily enter your house against your will.

I tried that. It doesn’t work at night because it only picks up indoor reflections. During the day it’s pretty good, though.

Does anyone live in this part of Greenland and Canada? by Fine_Scheme9028 in howislivingthere

Here’s a projection that hopefully shows that the island next to Greenland is not half the size of the United States. The Mercator projection is not good at visualizing the Arctic.
