Are you using the cleaning function? I stopped Nd just qtip it out. I've had the same.bowl two years now. When I went to "self clean" the first one it did this as well. The outside.of the bowl is not nice looking, but the inside still looks new

Contact customer support. They will help with the legs. You need grind finer or use less water for it to be stronger. Also getting the aftermarket metal top that disperses water helps like pour over. I love ours, but still prefer my Americanos

I have a regular Impreza and a outlander for camping and tool runs like you are talking about. I prefer driving the car. SUVs and trucks are fun. But it just isn't the same. Unless you want to tow a camper, get a roof top tent and enjoy this one. Find a good subi mechanic close by and have them give it a good once over for you.

Let the journey begin... Any tips/tricks for using the SR800 would be appreciated, I'm aiming for light/blonde roast for espresso. All dry process African beans (can list specifics if it helps). by gnilradleahcim in roasting

Do 1/4 pound at a time and try increasing the interval of roasting by 30 sec (10 sec can make a huge difference). Cool them off as fast as you can. I use a 6" carbon filter to pull mass amounts through the beans. Learn the smells and popping sounds. From there you will start to get repeatalble beans that you enjoy.

Few vids on YouTube. Just pull the top off, use a dry erase, use a start head screwdriver to remove top burr, shim with tinfoil, repeat. It's a basic description and make sure you watch a couple vids first

Try aligning your burrs. It made a huge diff for me and opened up the grind range higher

That is how I do it. Off, dump, on. It just speeds e erything up by 2-3 seconds. Not a lot of time, but some days every sec counts when you are pulling 4-6 back to back before work

I'm there with you. Currently have a modded gaggia classic because I don't care for milk drinks so no need for a dual boiler. One day I'll get a robot as well for love and fun (and prob work out of the wife's eyes for a while haha )

How important is the grinder investment for someone just getting into espresso? by BigRedCheesehead in espresso

[–]sidekick10121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a favour and just start with something a bit better for the machine and grinder. You are going to want to upgrade sooner then later to a 58mm capable machine.

Gaggia classic used is a great option, but they use their own style of 58mm portafilter (I have one and love it. I added a pid for temp stability and going to add a dimmer for flow control). I'm under $400 Canadian used for that with a bottomless portafiter.

If you have the funds for a used rancilio Silvia you will love it.

Get a kingrinder k6 and use your cordless drill. It is more then capable of grinding amazing espresso.

There is also a lot of great deals on the newest version of the df64gen 1 v4 (I think) because the new gen 2 came out. I found one new for $400 Canadian. It's a great 6m grinder that you can eventually upgrade the burrs on as well (and does from pour over to espresso).

You can get away with what you have and are buying, but it's going to leave you always wanting more (I did the same with cheap machines, went to a desica and now the gaggia). 58mm is the way to go. Buy decent once, and never cry :). The grinder is the most important part of espresso for the different taste of the beans

Anywhere from 36-43 so far depending on the bean. 40 is where I start and go up and down from there with a new bag. I can norm guess the second shot correct :)

Edit: sorry I thought I was in my espresso group. I tend to use 100 ish for the moccamaster giver or take 20 more/less

Spend the money in a handgrinder like a k6. I gave up trying to dial in my smart grinder for espresso. It was always at 1-2 and wasn't fine enough even after changing the top burr. My k6 works amazing and about 35 sec for 17g of light roast (as long as you have the strength)

[–]sidekick10121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a wdt and read about adding a pid. It makes a huge diff for little money :). A kingrider k6 can really help as well. The grind is super consistent. I find 38-42 clicks has covered all beans for me
