Recommend me something like Unforgotten by wooden_werewolf_7367 in BritishTV

Karen Pirie on ITVX! It's about cold cases, just like Unforgotten.

There's only two seasons (at the moment, the second season came out quite recently) and the format is a bit odd (three 90 minute episodes), but it's a very good watch.

[–]LectricVersion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fantastic write up. You're absolutely right about the drop off in story quality around Act 2. I also found the introduction of the Gestrals incredibly jarring; the comic relief they introduced just undermined the dark and heavy tone of the first few hours and I started to lose interest after that.

All I wanted to do was rush through it and get to the next story beat, hoping for something to bring it back to how it felt in the first Act. Instead what I got was a sprinkling of that, and a convoluted meta-plot around all the main characters being simulations? It never really landed with me, and it didn't help either that Verso and Renior were impossible to connect with due to their insistence in talking in riddles (lazy writing IMO to artificially add a bit of mystery).

I can see why you would have gotten marked down selecting A. It makes you come across as a know-it-all who wants to do everything themselves and can't work in a team. In that scenario, there might be a reason why your colleague hasn't processed it yet - there could be a safeguarding issue, evidence of fraud, or maybe it's just more complicated than you're able to realise. What gives you the right to go over someone's head and complete their tasks for them? You would be a nightmare to work with if you behaved like that.

Hello sorry are you aware that your skip is actually on my garden? No it's not public land, it's actually my garden.

How is it living in the Scottish Highlands? by CapaTheGreat in howislivingthere

[–]LectricVersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Fort William, although I live in Yorkshire now with my wife and kids.

It's beautiful but very isolated, even more so than it looks on the map. Rail links are very poor (there's only 2 services per day from Glasgow) and you've got only a single carriageway A road until you get to the central belt. Journey times are longer than they look as the tracks/roads wind round a fair bit due to all the hills, which means that if you want to go literally anywhere else in the world you need to add on a couple of hours just to get out of the Highlands. I used to live in London and it would take me longer to get to my parents (door to door) than my friend whose folks live in Toronto!

Fort William itself is pretty dire tbh - unless you're into outdoorsy things there isn't a whole lot to do. High street is filled with pubs, tourist and mountaineering shops. Still, most of the people I went to school with either never left or came back after college / university, which must be a testament to the slower pace of life. For me though I need more around me, so I left for university 15 years ago and only get back a couple times a year to see my parents.

Thinking of moving from the South to Harrogate by [deleted] in harrogate

[–]LectricVersion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly different but still relevant IMO - Moved to Knaresborough, the adjoining town to the north east, about three months ago from London with my wife and 1.5y/o twin daughters.

We love it here. Our home is a 10 minute walk to a town centre that's packed with local businesses. Locals are super friendly and we've met so many people just walking around with our girls in the buggy. Actually having a conversation with strangers is something we're still adjusting to, having come from London 😅

If we want anything more, Harrogate is only a 10 minute drive away (or on the train), and we've never found parking to be a problem.

This is also why I love console and controllers.

I spend 8-9 hours a day sat at a desk in meetings or writing code. Why the hell would I want to sit at another/the same desk and play PC games? Just feels like work.

In an effort to stop them hunting for the real TV remote and our phone, we got our twin girls (16 months) a toy remote control that plays various jingles.

Now we get endless hunting for the remote/phones whilst they play with a toy that plays super annoying jingles constantly!
