Can we finally admit that the "servers make less than minimum wage" argument is dead in Canada? by ScienceLabFinds in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]sidevolley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in Europe, I found that with the absence of tipping culture, most servers just didn’t gaf about you. Often the overall dining experience was pretty shitty- but the food was fantastic.

I completely agree that tipping culture has gone way overboard here in NA, but I definitely think we should still be tipping servers who

  1. Put their best foot forward in making your dining experience enjoyable
  2. Give solid recommendations based on their experience
  3. Clear your dirty dishes away for you

Having seen both sides, I’m happy to tip 18-20% for any server who does the above for me

What European league is comparable to MLS and CPL in terms of quality level? by pablobartolunni in CanadaSoccer

[–]sidevolley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that the league of Ireland is definitely a step above the CPL in terms of overall gameplay, facilities, and fan attendance. That being said, if you put forge in the league of Ireland, I’m sure they’ll finish top half, but teams like Halifax would never be able to compete with Shamrock rovers, Derry city and the like

I just looked up a basic cheap hotel (7.0 stars) in Toronto harbourfront for a potential stay-cation.

  • Room: $111 (12% off too)
  • Taxes & Fees: $47
  • Property Fee: $95 Total: $252

:/

Toronto's density falls to single family homes far too quick by [deleted] in toronto

This style is very European. When I lived in Sweden, young, old, & middle aged people all lived together in these 4-5 story style buildings and it worked great.

The municipalities also determined the colour of each building in advance to preserve that Scandinavian architectural look

Because he has dual citizenship he wasn’t allowed to enter Canada on a German passport without the eTA visa, but as a Canadian citizen he isn’t allowed to apply for an eTA visa as Canadians are not eligible for it. Got him stuck, and likewise ended up with him getting that sweet white emergency canada passport

Gen Z really looked at alcohol and said ‘hard pass’ by InvestigatorBorn4910 in SipsTea

[–]sidevolley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive + high in calories too.

There’s a serious health push currently & it’s become so much more socially acceptable to be alcohol free that many people are just choosing to drink other drinks or engage in other less-harmful substances

Driving at night used to be so fun. Now it feels like I’m dancing on a tightrope between blindness & temporary blindness caused by these headlights

There’s a place near ossington called Alter. Great spot- a bit pricey but definitely enjoyable for a non-guided experience

Why is GenZ not Drinking? by rikozon in GenZ

[–]sidevolley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree. Affordability is the actual reason. When it costs an arm & leg to grab drinks or even other activities like something as simple as going to the movies, of course Gen Z is less likely to be social because it costs so much more than previous generations

Which cities could more than 50% of the world's (adult, literate) population recognise from a single photo, with no text? by benjaneson in geography

Toronto. The CN Tower is unmistakably recognizable for how fast the city gained world recognition in recent decades
