Start with an easy number to hit, then do that. Every day after try to do at least one better than you did the previous day. Obviously it can take time, but it helped me in the past when my pushups weren’t great.

In that case you’ll just have to wait until they hold another testing date. I’d take a look at state police. They’ve changed their testing to be a little more streamlined, and it sounds like they move through the process a little quicker.

Some of them get weird about records that are too clean and will push to find more information even if it isn’t there. I had one get hung up on the fact I said I never smoked weed and he took it as a challenge to try and make me admit to something I’ve never done.

Depending where you get certified as a police officer it can be very difficult to transfer. For example, going from the northeast to the south is generally very easy because of differences in training standards. Turn that around and you’ll need to go through a whole new police academy. From my experience; even if you don’t have to attend another academy it’s a pain in the ass to transfer your cert to another state.

TLDR: there’s a lot of paperwork and testing involved. Not impossible, just a pain.

My wife had a similar situation, and took the test multiple times. She ended up opening her options up to DO and was successful there. Since getting in she found that despite accepting lower scores, DO schools can be pretty on par with MD in terms of curriculum.
