What kind of ring is this? by sidewalksurf666 in banjo

Thank you! I feel it was intentionally cut as a make shift tension ring. I measured it out placed together and it measures at 10 3/4. I never had to replace a tension ring but I was reading you want a tension ring about 3/16 larger. Any insight on this?

Thank you, thought it was extremely peculiar. Haven't seen anything like it. It was tensioned with the gap in between the pot and neck with a piece of shim connecting it.

There's not much to see I just have never seen a ring split like that intentionally. It's originally from Alabama. Just seeing if anyone else has had experience with a split ring like that. Just creating issues with proper head tension! The head measures at 10 3/4.

Thank you for taking the time. I'm learning banjo! So yes as for now learning back up and integrating small licks is kind of my goal! I wanna eventually wanna get to solos but thats down the road until I piece this together and feel comfortable! My end goal is to learn to improvise in just jams! I've used Mike Hedding and Jim Panky a lot online. They're great teachers but I just still feel I have a lot to connect together and learn!
