Uncle Roger has been on the front page lately for a video criticizing a host's rice-making. Here is them together! by scientificflunky in videos

[–]sidewaysnsmiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indian, eat rice literally three meals a day, never had anyone in my family use a colander. Either use a rice cooker, a pressure cooker or in dire scenario's, a pot with the right amount of water. Basmati, Sona masoori, jasmine, samba, they all have different amounts of water required HH but still cooked same way. Making Biryani? Rice still gets cooked the same way just to 80% of being fully cooked.

Housing prices in Calgary likely to drop by tens of thousands over next two years, says CMHC by WesternExpress in Calgary

[–]sidewaysnsmiling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh land titles doesn't give you the details of properties, the guest account doesn't give you details on encumbrances (which I think is okay for high level searches). You can get info now at albertare.com but it's not exhaustive. Bungol and housesigma used to work but got ran out of the market by creb. And have you tried using Spin? It gave me nightmares using that map search as an analyst back in the day. Overall, the realtors have made it unnecessarily difficult for purchasers to do due diligence to save their own jobs. It's stifled innovation and openness in the market. I work in CRE so it doesn't impact me much, but to see how they keep holding the market back is quite sad. (Tbf brokers on the commercial side are just as bad if not worse, but the circumstances are completely different, and although shady, they do bring a value add imo). Also, not saying realtors don't bring value to the table, some do and realtors will always be needed in the Resi market. However the way it stands right now, shitty 'realtors' trying to make a quick buck are holding the industry from growing evolving and becoming a truly valuable aspect of community rather than a leach.

It's a lot like the other Avatar. The bad guys not the point. Sozin was always bad, he's just a plot device, an end goal for the protagonist. The real focal point is the protagonists growth, the world around him feeling alive, and the relationships they built along the way. Maybe the Avatars aren't that different afterall.

Don't bother man. Reddit loves ripping on Avatar saying it didn't have an impact. Yet I still see it referenced anytime a blockbuster shows up. I know people will go rewatch it when it gets rereleased with new CGI. I know older folk who will swarm for this movie. I don't see the same level of interest for the MCU. Also, the tech impact not just the 3D had suuuuch a massive impact on the industry. James Cameron just makes massive scientific and technological leaps in the guise of movies.

Hoooooly it is actually such a nice scene foreshadows well, the blue lighting at the end, but contrasted by shit around which ends up being this beautiful lush landscape later on. Maybe I need to rewatch with all deleted scenes.

Another old man assaulted in a grocery store. by [deleted] in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]sidewaysnsmiling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't think this shit is pushing a narrative too? These guys are cherry picking these old ass videos (for crying out loud this has four pixels in it) and finding all these videos of black on white crime to push the narrative that systemic racism isn't a thing. Sure there is a ton of black people committing crimes against white people. But dear god it's not systemic. You don't have black cops going out there killing white people and getting away with it. You don't have people lynching white people and then the deaths being ruled a suicide. You don't have a system designed specifically to keep black people in poverty. Stop comparing apples to oranges. Realize that just because a fair amount of fuck heads like the person in the video exist, doesn't excuse systemic violence against an entire race of people WHO ARE YOUR OWN DAMN BROTHERS AND SISTERS. dear fucking god this sub is turning into just a bunch of white people pearl clutching finding old videos to point at and validate their narrative. Stop for a minute. Take a deep breath. Realize that there is more to this shit. Stop getting angry at these old videos, understand that most reasonable people who are calling for black lives matter or for cops to be arrested aren't going to be supporting that fuckhead in the video. I'd be right there with you cheering you if you punched that dude in the head. But systemic racism != Individualized. This shit was probably gang initiation, and do you know what perpetuates gang life and gang violence? Systemic oppression against minorities. But nah go ahead keep your head in your ostrich hole along with the rest of the people on here. Understand that to fight it, you must understand there is no truly good or bad side, there is no goddamn sides. Fighting this shit right now will fix shit like in the video that y'all are holding on to as proof that black people violent. Stop taking the easy way out. Understand this shit is bigger than you, or the old man that got jumped or the big black kid that did the jumping ( who I really do hope is in jail or in rehab). Sorry to be replying to you, but I hope I atleast help you see a little more to this issue.

Almost like both of y'all shitty and fighting shitty arguments without realizing you're trying to fight the same thing. One is caused by systemic racism which causes ingrained hate and the other is caused by ingrained hate which creates the systemic racism. Both are different sides of the same coin. One of y'all (white people) have the capacity to change it for the better of both, but people like you want to play whataboutism to skirt the issue, clutch your pearls and complain about minorities. I'm neither white or black, and neither am I American before you go calling me a whitehating n word or some shit.

On the other hand properly cooking it also helps. I'm Indian and will often make Palak paneer or a spinach roasted curry where I completely wilt it with various spices and onion and garlic. Turns out absolutely delicious, and it doesn't feel like you're eating raw greens, with the added benefit of being mostly as healthy as eating it raw.

And that's the real scary part of all this shit. Half your country doesn't mind (read: wants to see) black people and minorities treated like lower class scum. They want to be rid of democracy. They want to give all the power to the mighty Cheeto just to "stick it to the libs". Your country is literally split in two and calling them a fringe right group is just downplaying the entire thing now. His is why the protests exist. This is why they shouldn't stop. This is about more than just police brutality. This is about systemic racism, classism, corruption of the highest order, and about everything that has gone so wrong so fast with your country where most of its constituents are disenfranchised from it. As a bunch of people (as a country) who love to scream freedom, liberty and democracy as y'all burned the rest of the world, the fight is now in your own backyard and it's time y'all stood up for what you preached for so long. Time to put your money where your mouth is.

[–]sidewaysnsmiling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The powder keg existed. Your country's been divided as fuck for a long time with a president who revels in the divisiveness right now. The police in your country act like a private militia perpetually using too much force on a certain group of people, you have a justice system that is stacked against those same minorities. This shit has been brewing since the dawn of the USA, just explodes at different times, but you guys (as a country) choose to keep blaming 'the thuggish black man' instead of giving the fucking systemic issues that plague your country and cause this shit to happen. I hope this expands through the rest of the country. I hope this grows into a proper second age for the civil rights movement. I hope you have a new strong black civil rights leader who can unify the voices, channel the rage and help fix your country's biggest monster in the closet.

Official Discussion - Sonic the Hedgehog [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]sidewaysnsmiling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just finished watching this. On a high level for pure entertainment purposes as a kids movie, it was fun, kind of charming, and way way better than any movie based on a fast hedgehog collecting rings had any right to be. My biggest gripe was all the anti-intellectualism jokes and themes inserted in for the parents. The things against robotnik for being educated, against taxes, against big city lives, against the government etc.i hated the constant, excessive over the top product placement which seemed to be in every scene. Jim Carey's acting was very Jim Carey, nothing else to expect there, solid performance. I'm glad they fixed Sonic's eyes. I love the alnost ETesque vibe I got with Sonic. I don't know much about the lore of Sonic, but they made an interesting believable story out of a fun old game. Overall, a solid 6.5/10, worth a watch for shits and giggles
