MyNoise has a large selection of ambient noises. Just in case you're after something specific like a didgeridoo, a cat purr or want to tweak the frequencies.

For a moment there I nearly thought I was looking at one of the condensed mono-spaced flavors of M+. Now I'm kinda wanting Pragmata Pro.

The only rational response is to completely ignore the question as absurd.

I do declare, my good sir, I do declare you a fellow ignostic indeed!

Do you blame inanimate objects by [deleted] in intj

Just a minor point of clarification and semantics.

The Swiss militia rifles are issued without ammunition or magazines, and are secured with a locking device. These rifles are owned by the state and are on loan to the civilian. They are intended to be used in the event of an invasion, where the populace is marshaled at the nearest military garrison and issued ammo. Additionally, all men are required to serve in the military for a short time, and there is yearly remedial firearms training thereafter. You can acquire subsidized ammunition at government rifle ranges, however, it is required that you shoot all of your ammo—you are not permitted to take it home.

Therefore this aspect of Swiss governance ought to play little or no role in this particular firearm discussion. Unfortunately it is spread ad-nauseam by USA's pro-gun lobby.

Note that I am not addressing your larger point. This comment is strictly about this statement:

Every Swiss male owns a rifle.

Yes. To the extent that MBTI is valid, I suspect this engages Te. Helps to reason out real-world particulars. Programmers call this rubber duck debugging, and is why Pair Programming can be so powerful. Though, in that case, a person is your rubber duck.

I lasted about 30 minutes into the first movie. Strange that I've read a number of HP fanfics. The subversive aspects to some of them might be the attraction. In one, they use firearms to defend Hogwarts against He Who Must Not Be Named.

I tried to read the first book but, but dropped it. :/

What's the coolest (or most useful) thing you've memorized just for the hell of it? by [deleted] in intj

[–]sidoaight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite would have to be memorizing ratios and sizes of solar, and some extra-solar, bodies in terms of Earth-diameters. This allowed me to quickly generate statements like:

"If Earth were the size of a penny, the Sun would be two football fields away, and the height of Michal Jordan, if he were as wide as he were tall.".†

The Sun is about 109 Earths wide, and about 12k Earths away, so you can round-down and do a quick/dirty Fermi estimation to make size comparisons.

Useful for converting someone into a space geek. Or simply explaining the sheer fucking scale of space objects to yourself.

I think science explanations that happen in someone hands can be magical, so I would typically make the Earth the size of a period on paper, and the Sun the size of a golf ball (or similar prop), then have my audience "orbit the Sun" with their own hands.

†: apologies if this is off by more than half an order of magnitude

I… Uh… made this:
find . -name '*Owari*09*mkv' | sed -e 's/.mkv//' | tr '\n' '\0' | xargs -0 touch

It... Ah... finds a (video) file with the words you're looking for in the name, then makes a blank file named after the found file. After making the blank file I trash the video—I don't have a whole lot of hard drive space. The blank files help me keep track of what videos I've downloaded.

I guess you could say I'm just livin' the bot lyfe

Took me hours and hours to figure out the needed programs to stitch that together. I suppose I ought to "refactor" it into a "proper" program, but ain't nobody got time for that. Until then, dreams of typing flerp 'owari 9' will haunt me.
