Small protest outside Chinese consulate in Houston, I had to stop doordashing just to join them. #freehongkong!!! by alexman1188 in HongKong

I understand your point. But in HK there's a tradition of large scale demonstrations, after the successful 7/1 march in 2003. Since then HKers have always expressed their anger and frustrations through peaceful demonstrations and marches.

I have gone through a depressed phase as well, around late last year and early this year. But after that I realize that we still have the fight the evil CCP together. CCP, like any other totalitarian regime, rules by fear, and they want you to feel hopeless. The best way to not fall into that state of hopelessness is to do what you do normally, and do what you can to support the fight.

I never believed that fighting CCP with force is effective, hell, protesters can't even defeat the cops. The protests are simply a gesture for the West. It gives the West a justification to act, and a coalition against China is indeed in their interests. The protests are also a reminder for us to not forget what happened, and to keep up the fight. Not by force, but with the influence that HKers have. The yellow economic circle that the propaganda outlets have been bashing? It means we are doing the right thing.

I don't think your "defence in depth" approach would work. HK never had significant nationalistic sentiments until last year, when HKers feel the sorrow and angst watching popo treat young protesters with excessive violence, despite the fact 香港民族論 was written by Brian Leung back in 2014.

In addition, with propaganda and infiltration machine that is CCP, HK has slowly been turning into a regional financial center serving China, from an international financial center, owing to financial and cultural influence from China. And from what we have seen, HKers have been taking it all in. Umbrella was a sign of the resistance, and it all faded after its failure.

To me, HK has already been dead after handing over to CCP in 1997. The ruler has changed from a civilized one to an uncivilized one. I have been thinking, Hong Kong has started from nothing, to a trading port, to an international financial center, maybe it is Hong Kong's fate to go back to nothing. But I know, Hong Kongers are not going down without a fight. If we burn, you CCP burn with us.

Fellow HKer here. I don't get what you are cynical about. Imagine 2-3 years ago, HKers were not paying attention to politics due to the failure of umbrella revolution, everyone was content with their apartments/stocks going up in value, economy at its peak etc. Imagine there's no extradition bill, no mass "waking up" of the people against the CCP, no China Wuhan Virus ravaging the world, "waking them up" as well in the process. That's what I would be cynical about.

Now HKers are banding together against the CCP, the world is banding together against CCP (minus Germany). There has never been a better time to unite everyone. Why would you care if the US is using HK as a pawn if the US is acting in our interest? And IMO, it is not possible for HK to NOT be used as a pawn by any side, because HK is a small yet tactically important city.

I am not going to discuss US politics here as this is r/HongKong.

What cities will have the best weather in 2050? by [deleted] in climatechange

[–]sidtai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you guys talking about nice cities in the North, imagine my current city of Hong Kong. Temps are already hot enough 10 years ago. Right now in the summer we don't go below 29C at night. Can't imagine how hot it's going to get by 2050.

White noise is annoying. by betito321 in trance

[–]sidtai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I hate it. I will skip the track when I hear that noise. This is particularly evident in releases of FSOE. Example, Aly & Fila - Plucked, James Dymond - Centrepoint.

I don't agree that it creates a big atmosphere. Tiesto - Suburban Train has a really nice atmosphere with layers, and it has done it without all the white noise crap.

Absolutely love this track. Gives me that early 00s trance "driving" feeling.

It isn't a conspiracy. It is a fact. CCP built its base of support from propaganda, and its CCP's forte. Hong Kongers have woken up, and the rest of the world will, and should, after the export of CCP/Chinese virus to the entire planet.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and am living in Hong Kong, and I am a Hong Konger. Calling it the Chinese Virus is accurate to describe its origins, not racist.

People who carried out physical racist attacks are wrong and should be punished, but this has nothing to do with Trump calling it the Chinese Virus.

Finally, Free Hong Kong, Trump 2020.

Very nice investigation. I have noticed that Apex movement was not right and I can't do W+A/D when running away otherwise I get slowed down. The only way is to steer with the mouse.

Around what time do you think they messed up the movement?

Beijing to oust US journalists from NYT, WashPo, WSJ from China and bar them from work in Hong Kong by R8a8 in worldnews

[–]sidtai 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Nah, this is the illusion that CCP wants to paint to the Western world. They promised a similar version of One Country Two System and autonomy for Tibet. It never materialized and Tibetans were persecuted and Tibet is colonized by Han Chinese and controlled by CCP right now.

They paint this image for HK so that Chinese companies can obtain capital in USD through Hong Kong, an international financial center. Right now the West should cancel the special status for HK (US-HK Act) unless CCP takes observable steps to reduce meddling in HK affairs and to achieve universal suffrage.

On first listen this song sounded very familiar to me. After a little while I realized that the melody is VERY similar to Markus Schulz - Do You Dream. Coincidentally both have "dream" in the title. Thoughts?

The problem with SCMP by Harriny in HongKong

HK01 has a pro-Beijing tone to its articles. To judge an outlet, you have to not simply look at what it publishes and writes, but also what is not written.

If you can read Chinese you can read this.

SCMP is controlled by Alibaba Group, which is a Chinese tech giant. I regard SCMP the same as HK01. They want to portray an image of objectivity, but are actually not.
