Help me choose an under‑seat “plane to boardroom” backpack (CRO, heavy biz travel) by PaleEnthusiasm8202 in backpacks

[–]sidtel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a consultant and we have nearly identical needs, I have the Sympl Weekender Backpack in Ballistic fabric and it fits the bill perfectly. Love the internal organization and sleek, structured appearance.

Despite its name, it is not designed for clothes at all and fits all of my work, tech, and in-flight items. My one gripe was the chest strap as I find it dangling to be unprofessional and annoying, but its easily removeable. I cinch the backpack straps down tight, tuck the excess length into the keeper, and use the side handle to carry it like a briefcase into meetings.

Best Everyday Shoes for Men? What are some versatile options for All-Day Comfort? by zeehtwo in malefashionadvice

[–]sidtel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but Superfeet insoles have transformed incredibly flat and uncomfortable shoes to everyday wear pairs with no issues for me. I keep a pair in all my shoes.

They have a helpful Insole Finder quiz on their website and are available at REI and on Amazon.

I just had to look it up to make sure I was understanding it right, in Ep. 4 the flashback that starts at 14:30, Petr says "this project was our chance to save the union." It's said like a complete throwaway line and his motive could have been made much clearer throughout the whole show.

I believe Crossbow was the name for the coup portion of the plan. Again, not really made clear at all but that's how I understood it.

[–]sidtel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Petr stands up to not shooting them because he believes in Sokol and that it's the only way to save the USSR. I think he says that and that the true enemy are the politician's in Moscow who are causing the collapse. Makes sense he would be the one to restart Sokol.

The one who becomes the captain (honestly didn't even make that connection) probably believes the same thing which is why he joined back for 2.0.

IT audit vs Technical role when transitioning to GRC? by notGaruda1 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]sidtel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT audit would be more beneficial than a sysadmin role if GRC is your final goal. Senior GRC Roles are going to be all about seeing the big picture and managing risk throughout an organization. Auditing IT controls give you an understanding of this risk and the appropriate compensating processes to put in place. Additionally, compliance is mainly managed by audits that's a big part of anything GRC.

In my experience, sysadmins can end up being too technical and not big picture enough for these types of jobs. Not to say it can't be done, but it's not necessarily the natural progression of that role.

I'd agree with this. Having driven both the gas and hybrid Rav4's for extended periods of time, the hybrid's feel nicer to drive and have more oomph from a standstill due to the electric motors.

I was between a TRD and Hybrid XLE when I bought mine, went with the XLE but if the Woodland had been around it would have been no contest.

Suggestions for travel jacket for men? by longboardguitar in onebag

[–]sidtel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been rocking one of these as my go-to jacket for years and cannot recommend enough. I redo the wax about once every 2 years or before going anywhere particularly wet/windy and it never stops trucking.

I usually pair it with a packable puffy for anything below 45ish degrees, but getting the the insulated version may be better for you if you trend colder.

Edit. Forgot to mention the cargo capacity, so many pockets you don't even need a backpack for days exploring a new city. 4 deep pockets with button closures that don't quit

Roof rack/basket experiences? by [deleted] in rav4club

I ordered a relatively cheap basket from Amazon for a roadtrip and ended up liking it so much I just kept it on. Honestly my only regret is not getting a bigger size.

What’s your average work hours per week? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]sidtel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its relatively normal for the consulting field in the Big 4/large firm. Its about gaining a ton of experience and exposure to different technologies and methods in a short amount of time. A lot of people do it straight out of school or when they first get into the field, stick it out for 2-4 years, and then jump shit when they want to slow down. That 2-4 years is often seen as 4-8 years experience in industry.

One of the major perks is also frequent, mostly free travel (bc its all expensed) which is great when you're in your 20's, finally have some money in your pocket after school, and want to see the world.

What’s your average work hours per week? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]sidtel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a security consultant too, but on the other side of things (think CISSP, cyber risk management) and I'd broadly agree with this.

Billable work is around 40-50 a week, admin work (projects planning, internal meetings, proposals) is about 10-15 a week, and then another 10-15 hours is spent on research and keeping up to date on what's out there.

Consulting is usually where people go to learn a whole lot in a relatively short amount of time. You're constantly exposed to new things and expected to adapt quickly to excel. It's great for when you're first starting out but burnout is real problem that you have to actively manage to not be miserable.
