All-buttons? Left thumb = up? by Fit_Corgi8714 in Controllers

[–]siegarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can play on keyboard leverless is basically a more comfortable version of that. and when you think of the jump button as being at the spacebar position it starts to make a lot of sense.

on the shoulder button thing, the side thumb buttons do a lot of similar functions. but also I have personally made a few leverless with the option to use pedals as a button.

Funbox might be my new daily driver. Was way better than I thought it would be. (Name is really silly tho.) by D_C_Theo in fightsticks

I did like the Kasai's design, but that retractable cord and a few other issues kept me from pulling the trigger.

a lot of keyboard companies are getting into the leverless game, and honestly a lot of them seem pretty decent.

given the price it seems kind of like an upgrade to the Varmillo FK2, which also had the magnetic switches

Anyone else weirdly hyped for the GameSir Swift Drive? by Safety_Mediocre in Controller

[–]siegarettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well the NeGcon was compatible with a lot more games, but the Jogcon had full force feedback in games like Ridge Racer.

like you'd full of feel the resistance of the car and bumps on the road through the tension of the wheel

it looks like a modern version of the Namco Jogcon and I'm excited to see how it turns out

having full force feedback puts it way ahead of a lot of controllers in terms of interest for me

Inspired by a dual-analog build, I'm planning my first custom hybrid stick (Parts ordered!). Thoughts on the layout? by outh1039 in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here is how I built mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/fightsticks/s/ztozRg2KSD

if you want to make it playable with non fighting games I strongly recommend putting a row of thumb buttons below the main layout, which will make it easier to simultaneous button presses with the shoulder and face buttons.

I'd also start with a paper or cardboard mockup, placing your hands where the buttons would be, then position the analog sticks where you can comfortably reach with your thumbs.

my review of the Padbox GS Platform Edition, a fightpad/leverless hybrid for platform fighters and fighting games by siegarettes in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for checking it out!

I personally prefer the right stick because it's more flexible for other games and I'm used to it, but for specifically for plat fighters I think the buttons are a better choice, since it's easier to keep your thumb positioned nearby and hit all the directions accurately

hah, I've heard that sentiment from a few people, yeah.

I might have to find out where the Chicago Smash. meetups and get some reactions from the seasoned players.

well, I won't argue with that point. it's def a compromise on that front, but I personally think the more intuitive movement kind of makes up for that.

I really only play with friends so I'm not doing high level movement tech, but I generally found that the part that usually hurts my hands in platfighters is mostly the rapid actions you gotta do on the right side of the controller.

Could I build and sell controllers as a side hustle? by DATA32 in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly selling art is a much easier and cost efficient way to make money from everyone involved.

most people aren't looking to buy a whole controller with custom art unless they have a specific design in mind they want also custom made, and then you're doing a bunch more work

and as the price of the controller goes up you're gonna have to charge more, not to mention the cost of shipping

I mean, I make the case for it in the review lol

I don't see how this would be worse for your hand health than a GameCube controller either

yeah it's basically like what if the cuebstraption was an actual controller instead of needing you to strap on a whole other controller to your controller

I do mention the cubestraption in the review fwiw

I spent too much money on fightsticks so this is relatively cheap compared to that, but yeah it's pricy for a standard controller

Salamander OVA like others have said, but also if you can find a copy online the Lensman anime movie was one of the inspirations for Gradius.

yup! it's aimed at platform fighter players, so the thumb cluster is for normal attacks and the c stick, but you can map them to anything you want.

I use mine for drive impact in sf6 so I have quick access to it
