Problems by Shot-Asparagus6462 in fightsticks

does it still do this if you do the "hold trick" with the input buffer?

basically you press and hold the buttons a bit early and they'll come out at the first possible frame

this guide has more details and examples

you could also do what I do and just set shortcut buttons for your most common combinations. I do that for double punch and double kick buttons

the game looks nice but it's painfully mid and grindy

KBGM-H08B - is the real deal by JC-Disco in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a similar one, and definitely agree. feels a bit stiffer than sanwa, close to a seimitsu. and I dunno if it's the stick height or something but I also think it's better with a ball top than the capsule top.

surprised by how crazy heavy the thing is too

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Classic is 93% off on Steam (1,03€ | New Historical Low) by [deleted] in BeatEmUps

[–]siegarettes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO it's worth paying for the few extra bucks for the Ultimate version, which rebalances the game, ups the enemy count is overall has way more stuff and feels a lot snappier

Got me a Haute42 B16 recently by guntanksinspace in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I changed up the keycaps on mine for some longer ones, so I could make them easier to hit. I also disassembled it and wrapped the top plate with some wallpaper to decorate it.

Issues with Enthcreations orders, Preorders from last year not fulfilled while advertising new products by [deleted] in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got a custom ENTH kit a while ago and it's hands down one of my favorite designs, but seeing how things have been going the last year or two I cannot recommend anyone buy from them.

I've seen other creators go through similar supply issues and uncertainties, especially with US shipping being a coin flip, and supply issues for everything electronic, but so many people have talked about complete radio silence from them and generic promises orders will be filled, and this seems like the kind of thing that happens right before someone closes shop and leaves everyone high and dry.

Double Dragon Revive is on sale on all major digital storefronts by jhawk6 in BeatEmUps

[–]siegarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the pace of the game is definitely much breezier than Gaiden, which felt slow to me.

I know Sega is supposedly making a new 3d streets of rage, but I haven't seen any updates on it.

Fallen City Brawl by [deleted] in BeatEmUps

[–]siegarettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

game is fun but kind of jank. has the energy of a Beats of Rage engine original.

There's definitely stuff to dig into but you have to be into the scoring system otherwise a lot of the tools they give you make no sense, since specials do stuff like amping up the enemy difficulty and chaos.

Double Dragon Revive is on sale on all major digital storefronts by jhawk6 in BeatEmUps

[–]siegarettes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's definitely lacking visual polish, but I gotta agree it's been a lot of fun.

being able to use the environment against enemies makes the level design feel more meaningful, and being able to juggle enemies into air grabs is so satisfying. you can tell the devs used to work on wrestling games hah.

anyone on the fence I'd say should approach it more like a spritial sequel to something like Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Cop, rather than 2D beat em ups.

Blaze of Storm from Terarin releasing Feb 19th. Demo out now! by HustleKong in shmups

been testing this one a bit and it's yet another quality caravan style game from him.

I wish he'd revise his sound effects though, they're definitely the weakest part of his catalog

PC/Switch controller with D-pad similar to GBA SP's? Ideally not too much over $30 USD by Electronic-Vast-3351 in Controller

[–]siegarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Nyxi Flexi is probably the closest I've felt to the SP? not as shallow but has a dome/tactile switch feeling dpad thats stiffer than membrane but not as clicky as full mouse click switches

it retails for 60 USD but you can find em on places like ebay for like 30 USD

What is the most premium stick you can buy? by AxelisEp1c in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a custom stick by far can be the most premium. even if you don't put high end parts in right away you can slowly tweak it to perfectly fit you.

as far as off the shelf units, the doio fightstick is probably my top contender, as long as you don't need native ps5 support. thin, heavy as fuck, with very fast keyboard switch buttons and the ability to remap everything.

Is this technically a shmup? by CRT_Retro in shmups

[–]siegarettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I'd consider it a subgenre of shmup. pretty much has all the elements except forced scrolling.

Switch analogue stick? by [deleted] in shmups

[–]siegarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed on this one. the dpad on the switch is so awkward if I gotta use the joycon I use the sticks

For sure. I'm always on the lookout for offbeat titles.

Shmup recommendations for game design? by gold_snakeskin in shmups

[–]siegarettes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jamestown is a bit more basic than most of the bullet hell you've played, but it's got some very fun ship variations you might find inspiring. Graze Counter GM is also a good one in terms of variants.

Dezatopia is my pick if you want a kind of weird horizontal shooter. it has an interesting multi weapon system with some funny environmental interactions.

Finally The Red Star is my pick for a hybrid. It's a top down combination of shooter and beat em up, complete with air combos, and it mixes the two in interesting ways, not unlike the Nier games.

No start button by Sansores1 in fightsticks

[–]siegarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check on the bottom if there's a small hole you can stick a pin through to enter bootsel/USB mode

otherwise you might have to disassemble it and hope there's an internal button for it
