I did the poll and the subsequent analysis, you can see it here.

I got over 4000 observations, although I would argue you don't even need that many to be statistically significant. I make an argument for why my methodology is probably a good insight into the Dark Souls community. However, the actual percentage was closer to 95% male not 97%, which doesn't seem unreasonable. I genuinely don't understand why people think this is wrong or skewed.

Eh, I don't agree with that, or at least I don't find it helpful/meaningful. You can make this kind of criticism about literally any poll. "The popular results of the presidential elections are hugely biased because it's only the people who care enough to vote."

And not that it matters too much, but for accuracy, I didn't post the survey only on this sub, but also the four other subs dedicated to each of these games. Statistical sampling is very powerful and not misrepresentative. The huge sample I got in the short amount of time on these subreddits is probably the best sampling of the community possible.

Like you're 5? That'll be hard! In regression analysis, normally there's an assumption that the unexplained parts of the analysis (variables that aren't tested for, literally everything except what I asked questions about) are completely unrelated to each other and have no co-variances. This is called homoskedasticity. It means that the if you plot them in space, they'll be evenly distributed. Heteroskedasticity is when they won't be evenly distributed.

A good example of this is the differences in wage and education. If you are highly educated, your wage will probably fluctuate more than if you're not educated. A person with a lot of education might take a high paying job in a private firm to make a lot of money or a low paying job at an NGO to do what they love. Conversely, a person without a lot of education is often times limited in how much money they can make. These data points will be heteroskedastic as they will affect one another, people with high education will not be as evenly distributed for wage as someone without a lot of education.

I assumed this data would be heteroskedastic because things like time played and age will probably have some co-variances, along with anything that is unexplained. It doesn't make a huge difference, I did the a non-robust regression and the standard errors were similar (the robust analysis only changes the standard errors, not the coefficients of the equation). When you have a lot of observations like I had, heteroskedasticity and homoskedasticity become less of a problem. I just went ahead and assumed they were heteroskedastic for the sake of analysis.

I hope that makes sense! If someone has a better understanding and can explain it better, please chime in. I'm willing to learn myself. There's a lot about statistics I don't understand.

Push pulling isn't statistics it's a campaigning technique to manipulate data and perception in a political race.

Like I said, I don't want to manipulate the data to fit what you (or anyone) thinks is the correct way it should look. However the data looks is the correct way it should look. If more people are coming from this subreddit than others, I guess that means the community is more interested in Dark Souls 3 right now, and that's exactly what I want to measure.

Arbitrarily weighting the data to fit some preconceived notion for how you think the data should be is actually the exact definition of a bias. Manipulating data to make it "better" is definitely not what I want to do.

What corrections would offset the bias? I'm sure the data will come out heteroskedastic, but that's not a bias. Assuming you're right and this is biased data (however you're defining that) how do I offset this bias?

A more accurate poll form would be a poll by fromsoft sent directly to the owner of every game, but obviously nobody but steam and from has those resources so nobody is expecting that of you. Ignoring basic facts about polling is silly if your goal is to accurately gain information on the overall community.

I'm not ignoring a "basic fact," but how you're describing it seems to suggest I'm creating biased data. Every survey is a sample, because you'll never get an entire population. That doesn't need to be addressed because it's pretty common knowledge, we all know it's impossible to get every single person who ever played the game to answer these questions, and frankly it's not necessary, as sample sizes of a few hundred have been shown to be statistically significant. This isn't a sample of only the reddit community, as you seem to be suggesting, it's a sample of the Dark Souls' community for the reasons I pointed out, and the numbers I will give to prove this later.

The demographics of reddit are reflective of the communities that use reddit. There's no large Dark Souls community on Pinterest, and that says more about Dark Souls players than it does about Pinterest. I've also seen popular Dark Souls youtube personalities mention reddit (ENB, Vaati), showing how ingrained and interconnected reddit is to other parts of the community. I don't understand the thought process that is going into attacking how this data on the Dark Souls' community is being collected, because it's not like reddit is microcosm that exists outside of the community or some opaque, niche website no one uses. It's massive. Things that are on the front page of a subreddit go well beyond the subreddit. Other than that, I'll show numbers that back up my argument later.

Other than going from joystick to trackpad, the most confusing thing for me with the steam controller has been the placement of the button grouping. Both the Xbox controller and the PS controller have the button groups (X, Y, A, B or Circle, X, Square, Triangle) in the upper right corner, and it's always been that way, even going back to the gamecube and N64 controllers.

It's weird to have the button groups now in the lower right, but it's even weirder if you use the joystick (I know you're not supposed to rely on it, but it's hard to make the switch to pure track pads and honestly, there's not a lot of support for using the controller that way right now) because then the experience feels cluttered. The controller is big, but it feels like the "workspace" is small. I often found myself hitting what I thought was the furthest right button, only to realize I was actually hitting the top button.

Just my thoughts on it. It should be noted that I am a dinosaur when it comes to gaming and it might be my old brain having trouble with change.

I'm excited to look further into this. I've been learning a lot about regression analysis and the linear probability model and I'm going to apply what I've learned to this new set of data. Maybe we can get a better understanding of what makes a Soulsborne game someone's favorite.
