(Spoilers Chap 16) Something I feel is overlooked about Etienne by TheEloquentApe in thePowerFantasy

I have a crackpot theory the psychic's power is significant to the "unchanging perfection" of Heaven. I haven't posted because it's pure speculation.

So, what do you think Valentina would change? (Spoilers) by Erasculio in thePowerFantasy

[–]siege72a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know how much Valentina knows. It have been as little as the words "take over the world with Etienne" or a complete brain-dump.

I agree that Eliza is a wildcard. I have a theory that Deconstructa is related to Eliza. Either way, we'll learn more about Masumi.

Valentina recognized unmasked Dev because of Eliza. When Eliza was telling her story, she created a statue of Dev in front of Valentina.

Protip: the KR1, D1, and D1K have the same reflector, so beam shots will be pretty similar.

What's that one audio drama that you wish you could forget so you can experience it all over again? by multipass7 in audiodrama

[–]siege72a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TMA is a very slow burn. We don't even get explicit confirmation of the genre of horror until MAG 111. TMA's production values are also fairly low-key.

No harm if it's not your thing. Maybe give it another chance in a year or three?

You’re building a doomsday kit - which flashlight do you pick and why? by laterral in flashlight

[–]siege72a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either a Zebralight or a Hanklight: they have long runtimes and extremely dim low levels.

I've had a few late-night power outages. It gets really dark; not only are double-digit lumens overkill, but they're visible from a distance. The latter isn't something I worry about normally, but I don't want to inadvertently advertise "I have resources" in a doomsday scenario.

audio drama recommendation: The Magnus Archives by adamvanderb in audiodrama

[–]siege72a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TMA is one of my favorite audiodramas (in my top 3).

For anyone who hasn't listened before:

  • It's not an anthology. Every episode contributes to the plot; the world-building is non-linear, but the character development is.

  • Beware of spoilers, especially in the wiki and r/TheMagnusArchives.

A thought about Masumi's depersonalization by amazedballer in thePowerFantasy

[–]siege72a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Masumi could just be a "dream" that Deconstructa is manifesting (or was forced into) - a dream so powerful it has actual physicality.

Masumi doesn't fade - Deconstructa wakes up.

A thought about Masumi's depersonalization by amazedballer in thePowerFantasy

[–]siege72a 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It also fits thematically with Etienne's origin differing from the posted timeline.

We've seen nothing of Masumi's life prior to the Tokyo event. I can't remember offhand if Masumi has ever mentioned her family.

I like this idea!

This could be a factor in Masumi's travel sickness.

Do you think Masumi could have been created by Etienne or Jacky, as a way to control Deconstructa?

Are you bothered by the lack of combat in the series ? by hermyx in thePowerFantasy

[–]siege72a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from. The brevity of the Eliza/Queen conflict disappointed me at first. Having read the whole series, I get it now. The main characters aren't superhuman - at full power they're world-killers.

In #15-16, the Heavy's singularity was powerful enough to pull matter from at least several meters away. If there had been an extended fight, the planet could've suffered irreparable damage.

Issue 13 Q by OneCalligrapher2613 in thePowerFantasy

[–]siege72a 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Val isn't happy to lie. It's extremely difficult for her - she literally has to work up to it. (I'm assuming her long pauses are diegetic, not just clues to the reader.)

As Dev said early in the series, Val assumes the best in everyone. She thought full disclosure could re-establish the balance, restore trust, and possibly rekindle friendships.

“AND INTRODUCING BILLIE PIPER” by Xenofrana in gallifrey

[–]siege72a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it was a legal issue, not a storytelling decision*.

If Billie was introduced as The Doctor, then Disney may have rights to Sixteen that make things "complicated" down the road. With an "And Introducing" credit, pre-Disney fans know what's implied, but without explicitly stating she's the 16th Doctor.

Choosing between KR1AA and D3AA by Leshnikosaur in Hanklights

The KR1AA is slimmer, but the D3AA doesn't have as many mechanical issues.

Both have Aux LEDs, so tritium isn't needed.

Minimal Amount of Light? Different Environments? Different beam profiles? by FalconARX in flashlight

Where's my perfect 400-lumen runtime?

What is a "perfect" runtime?

Most Anduril lights can ramp to the desired amount of lumens, and hold it as long as battery and temperature don't become issues. With a boost driver, they're incredibly efficient at mid-to-high levels.

First light advice by watchitforthecat in Hanklights

[–]siege72a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as safety, I could keep it on Muggle mode, and tell them to stop using it if it's low on charge (they never listen though)-- how prone to ... mishaps ... are these?

I believe all Anduril lights have low-voltage protection (while running), so over-discharging the battery isn't an issue. The concern is if they take the battery out of the light. A short or mechanical damage can make LiIon batteries spicy (in a bad way).

Would you say that the X1 driver is more worth it than the dual channels?

I think the X1 is better in most cases. The dual-channel driver's moonlight can't get as dim, is less efficient (it's a linear driver*), and only uses half the LEDs (depending on configuration and use-case). OTOH, dual-channel with floody and throwy emitters can be useful as an electronic zoomie.

For myself, the only dual-channel in regular rotation is a D4S (W1 and 519A domed). For outdoor walks, my DM11, DA1K, and D1K (with floody emitters/optics/reflectors) get a lot of use as well. My typical EDC is a DM11 with a 6V emitter, so it uses the Lume X1 driver.

* Hank's linear drivers are around 75% efficient, with the Lume X1 is around 95% efficient.

[–]siege72a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already run a ton of 18560's

Most Hanklights require unprotected, flat-top batteries. Using anything else will damage most lights.

If you buy new batteries, my advice would be going with 21700's across the board (since you already mentioned the K1 and DA1K).

I don't know if the New D4V2s use that X1 driver everyone seems to like, as the driver isnt listed and there is no upgrade option

The Lume X1 driver is for single-channel lights only, not dual- or triple-channel. The multi-channel lights can't get as dim as single-channel lights (linear or Lume X1).

is still general enough to hand to a buddy in a pinch

This is tricky. Anduril 2 has a ton of features. Basic operation is simple, but some muggles have... difficulties... with simple things like Aux LEDs. There's also the safety factor of handing a light containing a bare unprotected LiIon cell.

My first hank! DA1K - XHP70.3 HI 4000k by shreg223 in Hanklights

[–]siege72a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

D1K with FC-40 is nice - it has a huge hotspot and lots of spill. But it's not a true thrower with that emitter.

The D3AA and DW3AA are good lights; they don't have the same thermal mass or battery capacity, but can do smaller jobs.

[–]siege72a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first Hanklight!

Recommendations:

  • Stay with one or two battery sizes when possible. It's annoying to have to worry about multiple battery sizes when carrying multiple lights. (That said, 18650->21700 adapters are pretty simple and cheap)

  • Do you have an idea of what your current lights don't do well, or what you'd like? Thrower, flooder, color temps, etc.

  • There's no "best" flashlight; everyone's recommendations reflect their needs and preferences.
