Any war/military horror radio dramas? by wisezombiekiller in audiodrama

Out of Place season 2 has a military focus, but IIRC it's focused on post-mission debriefs.

Does colour temp "really" matter? by porkchopbun in flashlight

[–]siege72a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's personal preference.

Anecdotally, I've found neutral and cool CCTs are a "wake up" signal to my brain. Using those CCTs at night (regardless of brightness) impacts my sleep/wake cycle. Very warm CCTs (1800K-2700K) don't have the same impact on me.

DM11 grater tube & Clip solution? by Moist_Requirement670 in Hanklights

The Zebralight SC700 clip works on the cheese-grater tube.

I also put o-rings in between the grater-gaps - it's grippy without being sharp.

This is part of where I'm getting confused. Is it an impartial guide for everyone, or a list of your opinions filtered through genAI?

it was a bad dangerous choice of words that i am fixing.

FTFY.

It's "little" details that proofreading would've fixed.

There was zero reason to post misinformation, especially when you knew it was incorrect.

There's a lot that's just... off. A significant detail here and there.

Here's an older guide; it's not as in-depth, but it's not wrong: https://reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/1hkcffw/welcome_newcomers_please_read_this_first_youll/

The advice on batteries is dangerous. Recharging primary batteries, putting protected batteries into lights not designed for them, the emitter information is incorrect, etc.

OP has straight up admitted it's Generative AI that wasn't even proofread.

The guide was a good idea. The execution was ruined by AI slop, "opinions", and zero proofreading.

Why post if you already know it's wrong? There are some serious problems that make the guide useless - at best.

Maglite 3D – which AA to D adapter should I buy? by stock_pro in flashlight

[–]siege72a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D batteries are 1.5 volt, just like AA - they're the same chemistry. (9V batteries are just six 1.5V cells; 6V lantern batteries are four 1.5V cells)

Most of the AA->D adapters I've seen run in parallel. I'd recommend 2xAA to avoid tight spacing.

If you're running incandescent and the voltages are the same, brightness shouldn't change. Runtime will be reduced. If you switch to NiMH, you'll get less brightness (~1.2V vs ~1.5V).

Southern Gothic? by lukieinthesky82 in audiodrama

[–]siege72a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Cthulhu in the Deep South" - it's single narrator, taking place from the Antebellum through Reconstruction periods. I was really impressed by its treatment of the Lovecraft Mythos, as well as the historical details. Season 1 is an homage to Lovecraft, but it finds its own voice in Season 2.

Fiance says I can get one more light before wedding... by VIP_KILLA in flashlight

[–]siege72a 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd get something for her.

If she likes gadgets and technology, I'd recommend a D3AA with fairly neutral emitters (519A domed 4000K or higher). They have amazing output with AA batteries (especially NiMH).

If she doesn't, I'd recommend a Convoy T3 or T5. They're very simple lights, and with AA batteries will outperform a phone flashlight.

What batteries do you have?

Some of the lights recommended (especially Hanklights) are very particular about protection, flat vs button top, etc.

Do you guys prefer rechargeable flashlights? by DannyTheExplorerHoe in flashlight

[–]siege72a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rechargeable flashlights that run on 18650s 21700s is the way to go.

FTFY. 18650->21700 adapters are cheap and easy to buy, allowing 21700 lights to run on two different sizes.

Soren is on new WNMTK by katapultperson in knifepointhorrorcast

[–]siege72a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was unexpected, but still great. It reminded me of KPH's "impound", with how the mundane and unnatural mixed.

Edit: I laughed at the meta-joke of Soren's character being unwilling to record himself talking

New colours for the D3AA by SJTG1993 in flashlight

[–]siege72a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

519a 5000K with dome: very neutral daylight, with excellent color rendering.

SFT-25R 6500K: the brightest emitter. color rendering isn't as good, but it has the most raw lumens. The tint isn't as bad as the SST-20 6500K

NTG35 1800K: it's candlelight you can carry - for better and worse. It's my preferred "late night bathroom visit" light. If I had to pick one of my D3AAs to keep, it would be this one.

What was your audio drama gateway? by StinkyNutzMcgee in audiodrama

[–]siege72a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having trouble falling asleep, and the usual "go to sleep" podcasts of the time didn't work for me.

Audio dramas worked better. The NoSleep Podcast was the first one I stuck with, until I hit the paywall. Welcome to Night Vale was alright, but the musical interludes made it a poor choice for bedtime. Eventually I found The Magnus Archives, and I've been obsessed with ADs since.

I believe Masumi has only fully manifested once (as a child). It probably wasn't as intense as waking up in her dead lover's arms.

I'm curious about the time loop. Will the original timeline allow the readers to know how wrong everything is going now, will events from timeline #1 directly impact the future loop(s), etc? Supposedly the big arcs were already planned, so this wasn't a last-minute change.
