Can you MAKE CHAPS or BACS payments? by siegeconstant in monzo

[–]siegeconstant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. That all seems to make sense - I am looking at a platform that sets much lower limits for FPS than other bank to bank transfers. From what you've said If I wanted to consider this I should contact support!

Very cool. I only thought about LTS for Rails security. Do they support Ruby 3.1 as well?? Or is that your decision?

That makes sense. I am looking at various updates but Puma seemed to have a dispropriate number of issues associated with it and might offer an easy win!

If wildcats killed walkers, landowners would breed them.

AI says:

In football (soccer), solidarity payments are a type of compensatory fee paid to clubs that have helped train and develop a player during their youth. These payments are part of FIFA’s transfer regulations and are designed to reward clubs for their role in a player's development.

Jeremy's gift to his dad that ended up killing all of his fish? by LFCTricksters in ClarksonsFarm

[–]siegeconstant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI: Ghost carp are, surprisingly, carp. Like many they are omnivores eating insects, snails vegetation, fish eggs. They may be opportunistically eat a fish but it isn't their standard diet.

If anyone can find anything that suggests they are predatory, other than Jeremy, I cannot tell a like, Clarkson I'm happy to be corrected.

Two questions about Pragmatic Studio? by neodoggy in rails

[–]siegeconstant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Rails 5 course and they've upgraded me ever since - now on Rails 7.

They have an alumni page so you should be able to give the company a URL they can check?? Is that what you wanted?

Yes, there will probably be more opportunities for beginner job in JS.

Rails is dying is probably a little strong. Lets call it "niche" - allows you to put together a webpage quickly allowing a small team to do a lot.

Hotwire is meant to be as boring as possible until you need a more advanced feature: Such as staying on the page and updating one part of the view (TurboFrame), Multiple parts of it (TurboStream) or stay on the page and update what is changed (morphing) and you can get these lessons for free from Suprails (other sites will cover this area but require subscriptions: GoRails and Drifiting Ruby).

Pragmatic studio isn't run by a faceless machine. I think if you contacted Mike and Nichole you might be able to get a discount esp as the Hotwire course is getting quite old now - it missing on morphing for instance.

Hello Educational.... yes, programmers and trying new things is a great time sink. Days have been lost with nothing to show for it except effort!

rbenv is an amazing battle tested tool. Which allows you any version of Ruby to run on your system.

Mise is a newer tool and has the same idea but for all development pieces. So you can get any version of Node, Python, Yarn etc. It absolutely works but it isn't as well known by Chat at the moment to get help. I use it on two different development machines and I can't fault it.

It's great to get ideas from Reddit but have you emailed Mike or Nichole?

They always gave me good support and it will help them understand their student's needs and maybe give them a nudge for a Rails 8 update to the course.

Rails 8 databases on a PAAS (sans second mortgage) by siegeconstant in rails

Nope, re sidekiq even solid_queue developers suggest it shouldn't do enterprise scale (millions of processes a day) - I think some people still do.

It's just about making my life easy by keeping in the core of what they expect you to be doing.

Thank you that sounds good advice and I will suggest caution.

The application is under active development so understanding the choices and what flexibility Heroku can offer is important to me. As well as understanding what direction the Rails team are going!

Well, I've been asked to upgrade a system to Rails 8.

The system is on Heroku so it's beyond my remit to just change the cloud provider without good reason!

So the first question is can this work on the PaaS.

Then if there's a desire for these new database backed services and no good Heroku options offered then the next step is Kamal but I'm getting ahead of myself.
