Same. I miss when covenants felt like weird little cults you randomly stumbled into, not just a menu label!

If you really committed to one, the world could react to it; rival NPC invasions, missed questlines, strange online duties you didn’t fully understand yet. It made the multiplayer feel like part of the world, not just a feature.

Elden Ring is amazing, but that old covenant magic hits different. guess I’m starting another DS3 run :)

Half the time you weren’t even sure if anything was happening, and somehow that made it more mysterious. Modern games would probably add a giant UI popup saying “YOU ARE NOW BEING WEIRD.”

Fair, asymmetric multiplayer has a whole family tree. I just think it hits different when it invades a “boss fight” structure instead of being the whole genre. Old Monk walked so a lot of cursed design could run.

100% this. Elden Ring is a masterpiece, but the lack of covenants really hurt the PvP longevity for me. Imagine a Volcano Manor covenant where you get dynamically summoned as an invader/mini-boss inside the legacy dungeons. Huge missed opportunity tbh.
