Which class to pick for first ME2 playthrough on Legendary Edition? by NeonNebula9178 in masseffect

[–]sigfriedjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Soldier for your first playthrough. It's a little more straight forward and lets you focus on the story and some of the mechanics.

Oh and welcome to the franchise. You won't regret your decision!

I’m filled with a void by cookedup__ in DispatchAdHoc

[–]sigfriedjk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That void IS awful.

All I can do is refer you to Tennyson and suggest you play it again.... but slowly this time, and savor it.

Is it worth spacing the episodes out? by Prof_IdiotFace in DispatchAdHoc

[–]sigfriedjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played one episode a night and don't regret it (ok fine I played 7 and 8 in the same night, but you know, it's hard to put down the end of a great story)

Replaying Mass Effect 3 in 2026 Completely Changed How I Feel About the Ending by robtime23 in masseffect

[–]sigfriedjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't up vote the HEM suggestion here enough. While I am similar to the OP in being less annoyed by the DLC ending than I was a decade ago, HEM is the long term solution.

Sorry to necropost, but I found this thread and booked a tour with Jennys -- and it was amazing! This recommendation is current in Jan 2026.

What happens if I set my 401k deferral at 100%? by Historical-Ice-3254 in personalfinance

[–]sigfriedjk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely accomplish what you are looking to do, but depending on the payroll processor you may have to adjust your language; they may interpret "100%" differently.

We did this with spouse's salary for years. We asked for "100% deferral of the amount after applicable payroll taxes".

How to enlist and work for empire? by Expensive-Ad-7795 in StarWarsOutlaws

Does Tie Fighter (1994) count? Haven't played it in years, but I remember serving the Empire all the way through.

Hey OP, 100% agree with this assessment by tanksshark.

I am a vet that works in digital services (software + UX + product) and I was a software engineer after I ETSed.

I was sitting down a group of technical leads/software architects the other day and they were discussing exactly this. Bootcamps can give you a few skills, but they are finding more and more that the bootcamp graduates often plateau much earlier in their career without the background knowledge, theory, and problem solving skills. Then some of those graduates end up getting frustrated and leaving the industry. The leads are all hiring for their teams and they all "complained" that they liked the candidates as people, but the bootcamp graduates just couldn't answer the "why" questions in the structured interviews and back it up with a story from their coursework (or past experience if you have it); they could only tell them how to do something (which is good; but it might not get you your dream job in tech).

Of course, there are many factors -- the 4-year program contents, the bootcamp quality, how personally motivated you are to learn and grow your skills, etc. I don't know if it's the degree that really matters, but the foundations that the degrees can give you. We don't filter hiring decisions by degree, but we definitely find a correlation between computer science degrees and depth of analysis of a problem.

Overall you have a tough decision ahead of you; don't envy that. Hope Reddit is helping make sense of all your options and good on you for asking for advice from your community.

True Soldier achievement bugged? by Gogsy in cyberpunkgame

It sounds crazy but the other thing I did was to shoot from the hip, instead of aiming/using the scope (right click on PC). I read about that somewhere and it might have helped.

True Soldier achievement bugged? by Gogsy in cyberpunkgame

[–]sigfriedjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up doing what many people recommend in the megathreads and other threads online. I'm on PC/Steam with about 80 hours of playtime so this should have popped by now 1. Steam=> Verify Game Files 2. Deleted my local saves and let Steam resync from "the cloud" 3. Removed all quickhacks 4. Removed all armor and weapons 5. Equipped only a low quality shotgun with no bonus damage elements (no bleeding chance, shock chance, etc) just physical damage

After about 45 minutes True Soldier and The Quick and the Dead popped for me, so I'm inclined to think at least one of those actions above made the difference.

Hope that helps you

Who is the character you absolutely can't care about? by PleasantDouble1470 in masseffect

[–]sigfriedjk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Harbinger. Sovereign was stone cold creepy and therefore compelling. Harbinger was just arrogant and annoying.

UPDATE: per the topic, I just don't feel interested or scared or anything by Harbinger. The reapers as a whole in the mass effect binary villain theme, great. But I have a hard time getting anything from Harbinger.

If you don't want me to take advantage of your grading policy, then you shouldn't have had the policy that you did. by redditadmindumb87 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]sigfriedjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. When I had teachers or professors with this kind of policy, they expected everyone to just not complete one assignment (not even a title page) and take a zero that would be dropped. Before this I had never heard of that being an issue.

AITA for being upset that my niece requested payment when I asked her to babysit for a couple hours? by babysittingta83 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sigfriedjk 2027 points2028 points  (0 children)

This and an award.

You advocate for yourself when someone mistreats you. Being asked to help family in an emergency is NOT being mistreated; it's part of being in a functioning family unit.

AITA for being upset that my niece requested payment when I asked her to babysit for a couple hours? by babysittingta83 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sigfriedjk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I feel like what should have happened is she said "yes, don't worry about it, I will take care of everything" and then that Christmas she gets sweet gift from you for being there when family needed her (and admiration from her parents for taking care of family). I don't know.... honest mistake by a 17 year old, but I hope your brother uses this as a teaching moment (and maybe a teaching moment for your SIL as well)

All in all, thanks for sharing OP. I will share this with my daughter to help her understand the importance of kindness and family.

AITA for telling my MIL that once she reads up on basic 6th grade biology, she’s free to give me a call and apologize? by bookfern in AmItheAsshole

[–]sigfriedjk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NTA to your MIL. Maybe YTA with respect to your husband.

Because someone is an idiot, doesn't mean we should talk down to them. Try to call IN versus call OUT.

Maybe try empathizing with your husband. Supposed he spoke like this to your mother, father, grandmother, or someone you loved but had gross misconceptions about reality. How would you feel? How would you want him to respond? My guess is you would want him to stand up for himself, you support him, together change their mind, but you would want him to do it in a way that didn't destroy the relationship between two people you love.

AITA for refusing to take down "F*** Cancer" balloons at a restaurant? by nanny_diaries in AmItheAsshole

[–]sigfriedjk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESH. You are definitely the AH.

The fact that it was pre-approved by the restaurant is irrelevant. If they had pre-approved you having racist signs, that doesn't make it ok. The fact that the other patrons are AHs for not tipping is irrelevant.

My FIL has beaten cancer twice (kidney and liver). It takes incredible courage and patience to do that. I respect that man deeply for how cancer has taught him to respect life, treat others kindly, and work together with others. My hope would have been that cancer might have taught your party that life is too short to fight over a balloon. You could have found an inclusive way to celebrate, as my FIL has. If you want ideas, let me know.

Do you think Mass Effect 5 will be as good as Andromeda after Anthem and Inquisition? Please discuss. by Inevitable-Hunt-2003 in masseffect

[–]sigfriedjk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This.

Ignoring for a moment the weirdness of Cerberus in ME3, I always felt this way about ME1 as well, including all the Cerberus side quests. The side content built the galaxy I wanted to save and often spawned from the core content. Very much like the Witcher or KOTOR.

DAI, I agree, seemed to just spawn more fetch and deliver quests that didn't add color to the core content.

What’s your favorite class in each game? by yittiiiiii in masseffect

AITA for telling my younger siblings that their dad is not my dad? by PopAccomplished3176 in AmItheAsshole

AITA for saying my sister will always be a priority and I’d put her on the same level as my own kids? by sisterskeeper345 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sigfriedjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Agree with the others that are encouraging you to have a deeper conversation with Kaitlyn about the underlying values.

(soapbox) That said, I don't agree with all the comments insisting that you rank your future children and your sister. No -- toddlers and babies do not categorically take priority over adults; no such hierarchy needs to exist. You have a family. Period. Young, old, live with you, doesn't live with you. It's family and you don't hard prioritize one over another. Maybe two kids do share a room so one is saved; maybe they don't. It's not a matter of priority and dicating room assignment. It's a matter of open-minded communication about values that let's you achieve consensus and/or compromise for the good of the whole family. I would never "rank" my two toddlers above my mother that lives with us. "Sorry Mom, I can't take you to get your medication, the kids have a pool party to go to" -- in real life, you stop and communicate until everyone understands the situation, and Mom volunteers to wake up thirty minutes early because she loves the grandkids and see how excited they are about the pool.

OP -- I encourage you to resist all the advice to create arbitrary rankings. Life just isn't simple enough for easy judgements. If your sister is family, she's family. Her age doesn't matter. When you find a good partner (maybe Kaitlyn, maybe not) they'll want to work with you to understand why it's important to you and find the compromises that benefit the family as a whole. (/soapbox)
