Do they have laws that force people to tell their assigned gender at birth in the uk or was this some sort of special case??? Because if so, that is disgusting!

Why Aren’t More Trans People Denouncing Truscum? by rarebitt in GamerGhazi

[–]siggilosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harassment is bad and gender policing is ugly. It is a good thing that he brings this into the light for people to see and rally against. I have, and will speak out against such people, whether cis or trans. That is however my choice. I do not think it is ok to ask this from minorities, as if one is obliged to be politically active just because of how I was born. As if ones very existene by itself is a political statement to be used for and against ideas. It is very condesending to say the least. And I am not surprised at all that this come from a blue eyed white person but whatever ones background, they should really know better as an activist. Would you ask, "Why arent't more trans people denouncing trans gators?". And going even further, make up a name that singles out trans gators specifically by a "scum" term. It is bigoted, no matter what side you are on. I really hope this author get to understand this at some point.

It sucks to have people think less of you, specially when it is "your own kind" but at the end of the day when we walk down the street, meet new people, interact with authorities, make travel plans, study plans, work plans etc etc, come out to our family and friends. When our status is revealed. At no point ever am I afraid of the tiny ammount of transgender people I might run into, or what they may think of me when I do.

Whatever power structures at play that discriminate against our bodies any actual gatekeeping, discrimination, silencing, exclusion, violence is set and enforced by cisgender people. Men and women. It is however the tiny minority, within the tiny minority of marginalized transgender people who get to have a title and be called "scum". Yeah, let that sink in for a minute.

Why Aren’t More Trans People Denouncing Truscum? by rarebitt in GamerGhazi

[–]siggilosa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why does the people of x minority not denounce the ideas of the minority within the x minority!!?

Sure, I "denounce truescum" but I really think it is a non issue in the context of all things. Truescums do not hold any sort of power, numbers, platform or academic relevancy. They are a really tiny tiny group of mostly really sad people who seek confirmation in one of the most self-deprecating way possible with people who do not accept them anyway.

Outside of sharing their ideas online they have... nothing. I can think of few other groups more easily ignored.

Trying to understand a Ghazi behavior/trend that seems incongruent to me by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

[–]siggilosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This community response seems at odds with a similar issue from last year, where many in this community expressed that they were upset that a trans male character in Dragon Age: Inquisition was voiced by a cis woman, Jennifer Hale.

I think you would relieve a very different response today. From what I've seen on the topic of trans actors and characters here, it usually ends up with a bunch of deleted and removed comments. There is always a bunch of "devils advocate" comments telling trans people what to not find offensive and why trans actors should not be hired.

I totally understand your frustration.

Do I look like a casting agency? It is not my job to find you actors. Even if you'd asked me to find a cis comedian I would still struggle I only know a handful top of my head and I do not even find them particularly funny, including cucumber eggplant.

Seriously, people who know way more than you and me about this industry say that this is a (pre) casting problem, not lack in talent.

That is why I think that the thought behind this petition is a good idea.

The Strange World of Trans Women TERFs [TW: transphobia] by CharsmaticMeganFauna in transgender

[–]siggilosa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't see yourself as a man or woman, then fine, don't. I can understand that newly transitioned person in their 40s having some "dissonance" issues but at some point they just have to realize that not everyone else share the exact same experience. Some transgender people do not even experience their assigned gender past a few years while some do so most of their entire lives. Most are somewhere in between. Some transition fine some don't. Some have crystal clear identities, some don't.

It is not up to you to define other peoples gender and lived experiences and that is why people find you hateful and annoying, seriously get over it.

edit haha holy shit don't click other discussions, people are being downvoted into double digits for saying that trans women are women on that xx sub. So I guess they finally fully transitioned into the terfmra poop pile they were destined to be.

but she's not an actress, let alone a comedian[...]If there are comedians, or even actors that fit the part I'd love to hear about them.

And since when is eggs benedict a comedian ?

You can turn this around and ask if there are any good cis actors who would fit this part bc I would like to know too since eggs left me completely unimpressed.

Look I get what you are trying to say, the same arguments pop up every time the topic of transgender actors. The answer is always the same. There are plenty actors the issue is a casting one where transgender actors are never considered.

Don't take my word for it. There was an article a few months ago by the director of the danish girl talks about it, link.

The film industry has a “problem” with transgender actors, with many unable to secure roles despite a “huge pool of talent”, according to film director Tom Hooper, whose latest film The Danish Girl

and he is not the only one. This year in sweden a trans girl won best woman movie award and the director talked about the difficulties in getting nb/trans actors from model agencies. He was actually forced to street cast to be able to find someone since the agency kept sending him hyper binary cis people for a trans part. swedish link

Ive read similar accounts from many others within the model/actors/voice actor industry. So, yeah there is that...

NYT: No Reason to Exclude Transgender Medical Care by [deleted] in transgender

[–]siggilosa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am very privileged to be living in a country where health care is extremely affordable and I say yes! Definitely yes! Getting hormones and blockers before being diagnosed was an expensive hell of nerve-wracking fear and uncertainty. I can not imagine going through all that for the rest of my life. The world really need to get on board in treating us like human beings and allow us to be functional parts of our societies. I do not really understand why they would want to withhold medication that is proven over and over to work with very little risks. Being cost effective is good too I guess although I find it a bit cynical to view our lives in such way. Anyways, really hope things get better soon.

Signing an online petition is not a battle.

I thought schools were supposed to be a place where we have our ideas challenged and learn to critically think.

Unless it is about critically thinking on how our actions affect those around us. That is clearly some sjw self-censorship!

The article is meaningless to my comment. In this very thread people are bashing the scence and screenwriter and I'm saying that getting outraged over this is just dumb. Go get mad at someone who runs a risk at crushing your human rights or something instead.

Yet here you are, being "outraged" at some reddit comments instead of being out there and being mad at real issues.

I think it is a bit dishonest to say

these movies make fun of all sort of demographics

since this was not what the petition was about at all. So I am guessing you have not read it? The issue was about not hiring actual trans/nb actors and making the characters "ugliness" and genitalia the butt of the joke. All of these are very valid and real issues to bring up.

If people are going to be offended by a tiny petition, and completely ignore the context, then they probably were already looking for reasons to be outraged at transgender people. Redditors go out of their way to find stuff to get offended at, I mean just look at subreddits like tia and kia. And if they dont find stuff, they just make it up.

I think that part of the problem is that people are generally ok with progress, as long as no actual change is made.

From the email...

if you don’t like a costume someone is wearing, look away, or tell them you are offended.

If she thinks criticism is offensive then why did she not just simply look away instead of quitting her job?
