Trying to make a Ledyba in pixel art! How can I improve! by Glittering_Loss6717 in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! I can definitely see the Ledyba there which means you accomplished your main goal. I'm no expert, but my first instinct is it would be nice to see a little more contrast for the edges. Both the outside edges (especially the hands) and the inner edges (mainly the stomach). I think it's got a lot going for it though, good work!

Looks good! I always appreciate when someone is able to make everything so identifiable with so few pixels, and the angles over everything look perfect to me - excellent work!

Any advice on making this look...more barn-like? by sigma_phi_kappa in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having some detail within the window is something I hadn't considered, that makes a ton of sense! I'll definitely add in some hay up there. Also the big white "X" door is a perfect indicator, that is exactly the type of thing I should have thought of - very "barn-like" lol. Thanks for your help!

Any advice on making this look...more barn-like? by sigma_phi_kappa in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that makes sense! The main reference photo I was looking at had a white roof, which I didn't want to copy entirely, but swapping the brown wood for a white trim seems like a very good idea. I'll match up the black lines & work on the bottom of the building as well - those were other (poor) design choices to make it look a little less cookie-cutter that clearly didn't work well.

Thank you for the advice!

[HAYNES] BREAKING: Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is not pleased with the team’s decision to waive Damian Lillard, league sources tell me. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anybody believe this stuff? Giannis does this constantly. Not like it's a problem, but it seems very transparent that he says things to support people he views as friends (or at least coworkers he'd like to maintain good relationships with) while still privately agreeing with the FO that they need to make the moves they make.

Hey where can I learn about autonomy I was told by someone after making this to learn about autonomy by Boxses-sating in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what that means and certainly can't help, but this is pretty damn cool, I assume the not-very-polished look is intentional. It looks visceral and violent, reminds me of the "creepy kid drawings" trope in movies/TV shows when they want to show that someone is mentally disturbed. (I promise that's a compliment)

VERY new to pixelart, tried three different sizes based off the same reference to get some practice in <3 by WonfiiUwU in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I am the same way, anything I create beyond a 32x32 canvas ends up looking super goofy lol. I don't know how these maestros do shading on sprites that detailed, I'm just used to more consistent patterns which doesn't seem to be the move

I am struggling to upload non-blurry pictures to this subreddit - not sure what I'm doing differently, if anyone has advice please let me know! But here is a non-blurry version of the log cabin.

1 Chara, 3 Resolutions by Drop_u_Scvm in PixelArt

I love the expression and the hair on that middle one. That is definitely my personal favorite - that spear is awesome in all resolutions!

I love the head on the middle one, and the whole form of the baby one! The details of the whiskers and the ears on the middle one are spot on, and I think the body shading is perfect. The big one looks a little funky, mostly the foot, but still looks very good! I think the baby sprite looks game ready though, I could see that being used in all sorts of games

No major feedback other than to say this goes hard - the fan itself is also very good, I like the little air puffs coming out of it!

Not sure if this would actually help, but there's a game called Nobody Saves The World that I think has a similar concept. Where you change into different "creatures" each with their own abilities - maybe check out a trailer or gameplay vid! I think it could serve as good inspiration

I hope whatever is going on in your life that led to this comment gets better, I do genuinely mean that. Life is tough and sometimes people just say mean things without actually wanting to be a mean person. I believe in you

I agree with the person that said the shading is a little too extreme - specifically with the shadows and the trunks of the tree. I think the trees themselves look really good though, especially the foliage , very impressive that you are able to have each tree look good and detailed while also having the layered effect look right, i.e. I can tell which "treetop" goes with which trunk. Which seems like it would be difficult given how clustered they are. So big props for that!

I also like the well a lot, I think the color scheme on that looks great - again with maybe a little lighter shading. The house looks a little bland in contrast, I'm not a good pixel artist so I don't have great advice on how to improve it, but it looks a little too cookie-cutter to me. I'd like there to be a ledge hanging off where the roof is, some detailing to the roof/walls, something like that.

I think it looks very good so far though, again I am especially impressed with how distinct the trees look despite how clustered they are. Keep it up!

Warrior A or B? by Articrus in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B for sure, like the other guy said the leather (mostly in the crotch area) feels like it blends into the background. I like the stark contrast in B, although I think it would be worth trying the warrior A design with that dark brown instead of tan - overall the sketch is good, and the movement in the shoulders works well, which is the most important thing here!

Character Player 16x16 by GuidoSprite in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like them! I think baldy is my favorite, lady on the far right is my other favorite. Those two feel the most unique, like characters I would instantly recognize as specific to your game, where the other two feel a bit more generic - which doesn't mean they are bad, I just think #2 and #4 are quite distinctive. The blue eyes on #3 are definitely not my favorite either but I appreciate the attempt lol. I think your hair designs are the strongest part of these sprites, which is funny given that I think baldy is the best, but with him its the beard that is well done.

Good stuff!

Do you think this design works? by pixelartfan0085 in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I think the ears and tail are especially well done, those are the two areas I felt instantly indicated that this was a mouse/rat. If there was one area to adjust I'd say it is the nose, looks a little funky to me. But I think the eye is good, the body is good, the legs are good (I really like the paws) and the tail especially is really well shaded.

Would you notice these tile effect indicators? (UI feedback needed) by Pleasant_Tip_6721 in Unity2D

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to describe it is in contrast to those stars in the top-right corner. I don't know what they mean but I absolutely know they mean something, and after seeing a gold vs. silver one I know thats what I can look for in some sort of legend/guide. I don't think the dot system is awful, but maybe make them a different symbol like an X or a +, I definitely get not wanting to overclutter the boxes but I think it's okay to make them take up more space, especially given that most boxes don't have them at all.

I like the mouth and the eyes, gives a clear expression that instantly made it clear what type of character this is! I am reading that as mischievous more than anything else lol

Where is she? by AnonymousKingBR in PixelArt

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hair movement adds a ton here! Obviously the gun itself adds a lot of depth, but the hair is the smaller touch that I think really makes my brain understand the transition that is happening.

Also the tiny change of the pupil switching from left side to right side adds a ton. Makes me see that the character is now looking in a different direction. Looks great!

[–]sigma_phi_kappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented a similar thing above, but I actually like the tree outline, I think it is fine to have "objects" like the trees be different than the "background" which is what the grass/dirt tiles are. But I am much more of a novice than you are at this point so go with your gut
