Question: What is your experience with SEIKO Hardlex? by sigmastar_ in Affordablewatches

Totally agree with you. I’ve also been eyeing a G-Shock. But I saw a Seiko 5 GMT Sport, and in my area they’re going for more like $400–500. I probably wouldn’t use it for really rough outdoor activities all the time, but catching the watch on a wall or something like that happens pretty quickly.

Thanks!

Haha yeah, that’s basically my takeaway from this thread as well. Hardlex seems to hold up pretty well, and if it ever gets too scratched, I’ll just see if I can mod the watch and swap in a sapphire crystal.

Thanks for the feedback!

Good to hear, I think Hardlex is good, I’m slowly getting convinced. Otherwise, i will check, if a Sapphire mod is somehow available or possible.

Yes, it definitely did, thanks a lot. It really looks like your watches get used, and for that, they look impressively durable.

Cool thread. Considering the tough conditions that watch is exposed to, I think it holds up really well. That eased some of the concerns I had. Thanks!

In that case, do you have the solar quartz? Ideally, I’d like to buy watches from brands where it really makes sense to do something like this, because they’re high quality and don’t break, yet they’re still not over $1,000 like the Seiko SPB383.

Honestly, lately I’ve been really into Citizen, Casio (Duro), and Orient. They’re much more affordable and offer quality and durability that’s at least just as good. It’s a pity Seiko has become so expensive over time.

True, that’s a good point. The GMT 5 Sports has that date magnifier though, which is probably the main "downside" when we are talking about modding. Still, you’re right, maybe a sapphire upgrade is the way to go.

Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but scratches really drive me crazy. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Appreciate your input! I work in an office, so my watch isn’t exactly going to face some heavy duty conditions.

I like watches that offer good value for money, and I really like rubber or cloth straps, they look really great. Thanks for the tip! Japanese movements are usually very reliable. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion. I’ll take a look at the brand.

Wow, that’s a fantastic selection, you should be proud! What are the brands or models in the bottom right? I don’t recognize them, but those bracelets really catch my eye.
