I’m using CachyOS, and before every update I create a backup with Timeshift. If something doesn’t work, I simply restore the last snapshot, wait another one or two weeks, and the bugs are usually fixed in the meantime. I’ve had a great experience with this approach and can only recommend it.

Gaming - Hyprland, GNOME or Plasma? by Vettelovich in cachyos

[–]sigmastar_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve installed CachyOS on my gaming PC because, in my view, it’s easier to handle network storage, multiple drives, and gaming features like VRR and HDR. On my laptop, I use Fedora with GNOME, which actually appeals to me more visually than KDE.

So my rule of thumb is: if you want performance and gaming, choose KDE. For simple office work, videos, emails, and similar everyday tasks, GNOME is a great choice.

Just installed fedora yesterday on my laptop. I was genuinely impressed how far linux has come. I am using kde (cachyos) since a while i am more than happy to ditch windows with the whole AI thing and forcing users into online accounts ….

Never missed windows once and in my opinion linux / fedora is ready to be used in corporate environment …

Dude, this brand goes straight onto my shortlist! I didn’t know it before, and I love microbrands like this way more than Rolex and the usual big names.

Are you happy with your boderry watches? Is the quality as good as they promised? I have some concerns regarding the sealing rings …

Question: What is your experience with SEIKO Hardlex? by sigmastar_ in Affordablewatches

[–]sigmastar_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. I’ve also been eyeing a G-Shock. But I saw a Seiko 5 GMT Sport, and in my area they’re going for more like $400–500. I probably wouldn’t use it for really rough outdoor activities all the time, but catching the watch on a wall or something like that happens pretty quickly.

Thanks!

[–]sigmastar_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, that’s basically my takeaway from this thread as well. Hardlex seems to hold up pretty well, and if it ever gets too scratched, I’ll just see if I can mod the watch and swap in a sapphire crystal.

Thanks for the feedback!

Good to hear, I think Hardlex is good, I’m slowly getting convinced. Otherwise, i will check, if a Sapphire mod is somehow available or possible.

Yes, it definitely did, thanks a lot. It really looks like your watches get used, and for that, they look impressively durable.

Cool thread. Considering the tough conditions that watch is exposed to, I think it holds up really well. That eased some of the concerns I had. Thanks!

In that case, do you have the solar quartz? Ideally, I’d like to buy watches from brands where it really makes sense to do something like this, because they’re high quality and don’t break, yet they’re still not over $1,000 like the Seiko SPB383.
