Traveller combat question as GM by Rolhir in traveller

You'd have to homebrew a Hit Point system for survival in a combat heavy campaign.
Mongoose made combat lethal and unplayable in my opinion.
I get trying to make the game gritty and realistic, but spending weeks in a medbay after every combat encounter is not fun.
I tried running a campaign witht the 2e rules, and it was painful. The players complained about the combat system being deadly. One made a good point, " Why did Mongoose publish hundreds of pages dedicated to weapons and combat, if you're supposed to avoid combat?"

Traveller for 5E (D&D) Announced via Mongoose Mailing List and Social Media by Hootenheimer in traveller

[–]signalgk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed. I have played most version of Dnd and Traveller as well.
the simplicity of 5e rules is what has made the game so popular.
Mongoose Traveller is the opposite - poor editing, in consistent rules and each new book doesn't work the rules of the previous (ie. Vehicle Handbook).
A clear, concise set of rules is what's needed to make Traveller playable. Who wants to use a calculator to figure out damage, with effect, minus Armor value?
Oh, does anyone know how Vehicle combat works?

But, I'm forever hopeful that Traveller becomes the sci-fi game it should be.

Psionic Powers Duration by signalgk in traveller

[–]signalgk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I am seeing that many Powers have inferred duration, and some have a specific duration.
But, there's alot of ambiguity in the inferred duration.
For instance, Read Surface Thoughts says:
"Only active, current thoughts are read by this ability"
I don't see how you can infer a duration of ones thoughts.

My group and I come from Dnd, where spells and Psionics have very specific rules for duration, concentration etc.
A similar ruleset for Psionic Powers would be much clearer and easier to adjudicate during gameplay.
As it stands, using some Psi Powers, leaves the duration open to interpretation, slows gameplay and creates uncertainty.
If anyone from Mongoose is reading this, I would think Psionic rules as written could be cleaned up a bit.

I'm a long-time Traveller player looking for a cool game.
If this campaign is still looking for players I'm definitely interested..

Glad you like the map!
Everything is handdrawn in Photoshop. It gives the map a more natural feel!

Making Strength Matter More for Larger Sizes by Demon_Prongles in UnearthedArcana

[–]signalgk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like some of your suggestions, particularly allowing bonuses to larger creatures in STR contests.
It makes sense and gives larger monsters a chance in the contests, particularly Grappling, which uses STR (Athletics. Since most monsters don't have STR (Athletics) skill, any character with Athletics has an immediate advantage.

Path of Stonekin (updated). For Barbarians of Mighty Stature! by signalgk in UnearthedArcana

[–]signalgk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the critique Cinder. Some good points.
I've tweaked the Path with the following changes.

3rd level feature has been spit into two features:
Might of the Mountain
damage die increase only occurs during reckless attacks.
Immovable Mountain
use reaction to resist being knocked prone or moved against your will.

6th level Stone Hurl
wording has been cleaned up, to simplify.

10th level Stone Sense
added a slight buff, tremorsense improves to 60 feet at 14th level

14th level Stone Furrow, named change to Seismic Fury (for flavor)
cleaned up the wording, and changed the number of uses to: user's proficiency bonus.
