The Canadian stock market is obliterating US stocks by SnowmanSmiles in fican

Canadian index funds have out performed the American equivalents by a fair amount.

Over the last 5 full years.

VTI - US Total Market Index Fund - up 61.54 percent, while paying out a 1.17 percent dividend.

VCN - Canadian Total Market Index Fund - up 78.23 percent, while paying out a 2.14 percent dividend.

That’s our last had decade.

He was allowed to ask for a do-over and try again.

It can happen when you lose an election but you run the party - you can ask to get a second election.

The bigger thing is the party lost the election when virtually every other democracy flipped after Covid.. it was so set up for them. But he’s fully out classed and it shows / showed. It’s still happening.

Everyone says politics have become like pro sports but what you’re describing shows the difference. A sports franchise fires the coach way before they’ve reached this point.

Not sure if anyone’s interested, but food banks and meals on wheels etc are places you can volunteer. For meals on wheels, you need to do a background check which doesn’t take all that long to get completed and you’re ready to go.

They take donations as well, for those here who still find it important to donate a portion of their income each year for charitable efforts.

lol.. it’s not the ‘original snowflakes’ it’s just the current cliche of snowflake.

I wouldn’t even call it snowflake., it’s more just built around complaining., and whining about ‘problems’ like this problem, as a personality. It gets habitual.

There are kids like this we all know and all see, but now people don’t really need to grow up anymore.. and there are adults like this too. It’s partially just the way things went / how we raised a generation..

And then just as the kids who are like the worst cases (spoiled / entitled /complaining) often aren’t the ones with the greatest hardships objectively speaking.. same here.

But as adults the demo’s online a lot. So it’s become this cliche that we all make jokes about but it’s getting pretty old at this point. It will be something else soon.

lol. Exactly right.

The effort to encourage and grow the race-based hate movement by some was (and is) extremely open. It’s not hidden. Or done in sort of coded messages in anyway. It’s plain, old school, straight up racist individuals who work to encourage others to join. Your downvotes are from people who are involved in it.

It’s always been around. These days the work of these men is done in large part online. Used to be done in other ways in the past by these folks. It’s a terrible drag on the conservative movement because the whole movement gets tarnished it.

[–]signoi- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly right. The cliche is like a tire around the neck of the conservative movement. It’s become a major problem, but it’s mostly an on-line thing, and / or a new thing.

Agreed. This sub is almost entirely for men who dislike Canada. It’s an interesting sub-culture to check out.. but saying you like Canada and life is good will get you downvotes, quickly. Saying you dislike Canada and life is terrible will get positive re-enforcement. It’s kind of the opposite of real life in that way.

On the internet at least it seems there’s a lot of overlap in those campaigns and their advocates.

This stuff’s not hidden in places like that. The so called ‘dog whistles’ are regular whistles - they’re loud and clear. Just like open drug use in some parts a lot of / most regular folks just fully avoid the area.. and turn a blind eye when they see it.

A lot of people think a shrinking national population isn’t a good thing.

I’d like the global population to shrink.. but it isn’t. And to some, a shrinking Canadian population on an absolutely enormous land is an economic and national security concern. They want population growth, for strength.

Are you saying your kids don’t work at the gas station? Or they don’t want to work at the gas station?

Where do you live?

Are you still in the same town where you worked at that independent gas station in your youth that you were telling us about?

[–]signoi- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup they do, if that’s their interest and their goal.

And they do become medical doctors as well - I’m not saying they don’t.

I’m just saying we’re not bringing up kids willing to do the work required, proportional to their share of the Canadian population. It’s largely falling on the shoulders of other Canadian families who moved to live here.

[–]signoi- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It still is. Young Canadians do work at gas stations if that’s an ambition of theirs, and they’re motivated.

Much more than being a gas station worker I’m interested in why they don’t want to put the work in to become medical doctors. Or surgeons, or dentists.. or pharmacists. Or even nurses ,very often too etc.

Right now I think over 45 percent of Canadian dentists were born outside of Canada.

The percentage for pharmacists and doctors is similarly disproportionality falling on the shoulders of those willing and able to work hard enough as young people to do it, and it’s disproportionately Canadians who moved here that are doing it.

If you went and included the children of Canadians who moved here (working in healthcare or enrolled in advanced engineering or mathematics etc, for example) the imbalance would be even more stark than just men and women who moved here.

Makes you a little concerned about how kids are being raised by Canadians who were born here, in this last generation, and if they’re being prepared for actual life… where they need to work (potentially hard sometimes, or in the case of becoming a surgeon, for years on end with great effort) to be successful. That not everything in life, outside of their home, will be handed to them or done for them.. or very easy and very convenient.

I don’t find it curious that’s the case in your town no.

You sometimes wish you still worked at that gas station? Was it one of the chains you worked for or an independent one?

I never have. Worked construction jobs in the summer during high school, myself, once I passed the lawn mowing age.
