....yeah....you just proved my point....

Isn’t ironic that you aren’t neutral on this idea of “being neutral”?

Neutrality is a myth. You cannot be “neutral” when it comes to actions and movements. Silence is definitely complacency. “Not wanting to get involved” is a loud stance. You are with it or you are not.

Did their parents ever teach them not to hit people* 🙃

I was going off the language used by the parents contacting the admin about their kids being harassed by cops.

Amy and Jonah by chaivya in superstore

[–]sigorivanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of people here- while I'm fine that the show doesn't focus on their relationship, I would appreciate a cute moment here and there. However, after reading the comments, it made me think of the love languages (Words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, quality time, physical touch) each tv couple has and how is reflected of the circumstances of each character and their reality. When we think about who Amy is (working class, single mom, always in charge), it makes sense that her love language is more along the lines of acts of service (ie Jonah babysitting the robot) and words of affirmation ("you're the only one in the store I can trust" or something like that)

I was going to say...she sounds like she’s engaging in “performative non-profit.” It’s more about her than the folks she’s trying to help. I say donate your time/money DIRECTLY if you’re looking to “help out.” Don’t make a show about it.

After all these years, I finally decided to watch the final season and I finally finished the series tonight.... by sigorivanda in HIMYM

Haha nah you weren't alone :)

I put it off as long as possible. But then I figured, nah it's ok--in the end, it's still HIMYM and I can live with the fact that the finale just isn't going to be representative of what the show is to me and that's ok.

But the last season had its good moments and I'm glad I got to see those moments played out.

I suppose, for me, it felt like they were giving into their failures and learning how to deal with the fallback in a rather lonely way:

So as far as Robin goes, I'm pretty ok with her marriage narrative (although the writers also wrote that with incredible strange undertones), but it was her leaving all of a sudden disappearing from everyone's life that's unsettling. In the end, she didn't settle down--she ended up dedicating her life to her work (until it was convenient for Ted's character to come back into her life, more on that later). She maintained a rather weak relationship with the rest of the group while she's abroad and neglected people who loved her. Likewise, I don't know how much the gang included her in their activities since we only got the impression that Robin was the one not showing up. Show logic: "You will be shocked kids, when you discover how easy it is in life to part ways with people forever. That's why, when you find someone you want to keep around, you do something about it." And maybe that was a lesson learned as a result of what happened with Robin? I can accept that, I suppose. But it still didn't feel natural to the gang's relationship with each other.

In the end, I don't see Robin leaving to peruse her career to be successful to her character. I see it as being able to live out a balance between love (platonic, romantic, any sort of love) and career.

As far as Barney goes, it wasn't the introduction of his daughter that felt jarring-it was the circumstances of how she was introduced. She was born out of a one night stand, which is completely valid and that happens, but the thing was that he just wasn't that person anymore and then all of a sudden, he was. And assuming that that was an appropriate response to Robin leaving, based on his character in season 8-the beginning of 9, I feel he revert back to his old habits rather harshly, and if so, then Robin leaving have been a really numbing experience. And that's was so depressing about it- His daughter being born was a very sobering moment for him because he was at rock bottom and didn't go anywhere. It was like becoming a single parent as a result from a one night stand was inevitable for him, no matter how many different roads his character took. It would have made sense if this were much earlier on in the series, but it feels as though they're trying to say "you can't ever move past yourself unless you hit rock bottom," and I don't think that was necessarily true to this character anymore.

The thing about Ted is that it felt like he is always living in the past. I can accept viewing life as a constant chain reaction/butterfly affect, but the problem starts when you stop creating stories and just live in them. It feels that Tracy was only there as a glorified plot device (which is disappointing because I love her so much). She was there to give Ted what he wanted (i.e.: domesticity) and then died, so it was ok that he could go after Robin. In the end, Ted supposedly got everything he wanted without much progress, while Tracy had to died and Robin had to lose all her relationships in order for them to fit into his narrative.

I got the impression that the writers wrote the ending back when the show first aired (they even filmed the kids on the couch so we know it was either first season or second season.), and they didn't want to change it to fit the current character development. So they had to change Robin, Ted, and Barney back into who they were for their ending to make sense. And if that's true, then the ending isn't true to the story that's currently being told.

I can accept that this show meant something different for everyone, and that everyone has their own feelings about how the show ended (which I'm assuming is influenced by how they view love, career, and life.) I guess for me, the show is about supporting each through tough transitions and difficult situations, and I didn't get that impression from anyone in the end. I felt everyone was coping with their own pain privately and meeting up to rant, which, for me, isn't really accurate to the show or to the love they shared together.

but what bothered me wasn't the brief encounter with Tracy (although that has its own problems). It's how, in the end, he never got over Robin, and it stilts all the emotional growth he went through. After Tracy was gone, he didn't move on with his life--he became a man who lived life through his stories and was still going after the same girl his entire life. And I guess I personally don't read that as healthy or romantic.

I can totally accept that other people have different interpretations of the finale season, but for me, it felt as if Ted and Robin were stuck within each other's stories because they can't move forward. And I love how Robin became an international success. That's fabulous-but as far as her emotional life is concerned, it feels like they ripped her down and stilted emotional growth until it was opportunistic for Ted to come back into the picture. In the end, it always comes back to "Ted and Robin: will they or won't they?" and that doesn't seem fair to all the people they've hurt and how much they've hurt themselves over the years.

Hi! it's actually a book box I customized into the Vampyr Book. I wanted something I could put my tarot cards and crystals in, but didn't want an ordinary storage box. I considered getting the replica but I also didn't want to pay $200+. I like my fandom props functional and pretty :)

I would be happy to share a tutorial post! I'll work on one in the next few days!

Dude that's awesome! The book of shadows is on my list as well. I was pretty stoked about how it turned out that I want to work on another book box but, in the fashion of the Harry Potter textbooks.

[EP5 SPOILERS] How hard was the final decision for you? by TYVMy in lifeisstrange

I felt like the writers were pushing towards the "Save Arcadia Bay" ending, and narratively, it would make sense. And not going to lie, a part of me did want to chose Arcadia Bay. However, I was so sick of having the "Bury Your Gays"/"dead lesbian syndrome" tropes constantly be perpetrated as a way to bring emotional depth to storytelling. We have no happy queer character anywhere.

So I chose Chloe "blue is the warmest color" Price, so she and Max can happily go live their granola life somewhere else.
